Trick to loading 300WM with 180gr TSX

Hey guys,
I'm trying to load my 300WM with 180gr Barnes Triple Shocks but it seems that when I seat the bullet to the required depth, I get the deep ridge in the bullet where I'm supposed to crimp causing the crimped bullet to move in and out a little bit.

Is there a secret to loading these because obviously it's been done.

Ok. I think I know what you're saying. The edge of the case mouth is coming just to the edge of "the deep groove"....also known as the cannalure (sp). When you seat the bullet, the case mouth edge isn't quite lined up with it, but it's close enough that when you crimp, the bullet moves..... If this is the case, all you can do is to line up the case mouth with the cannalure and crimp the case mouth into it. If that's making the bullet a little deeper into the case, so be it. If it's pushing it back out of the case, make up one or two and cycle them through your gun to make sure they feed ok. If the bullet is loose when you're done, sand down your sizer a bit to make the neck a little tighter and crimp the bullets a little harder.

If you're using them for shooting single shot target, do as Scott N said and skip the crimp. If you're going to be feeding them through a magazine, do not leave the crimp out of the equation. Uncrimped cartridges in a magazine are just asking to have the bullet pushed down into the case.

Seat it out further or skip the crimp. I have loaded lots of these and haven't crimped any yet.

Barnes will tell you not to worry if the groove is at the case mouth, and no need to crimp...

Sorry to disagree. I have loaded the .300 Winchester Magnum with full power loads and 180 grain bullets, and never crimped a load. The bullets never moved, and all were fed through the magazine. If the crimp is causing a problem, then don't. It is not necessary.
