Tricking out my SKS

Not really how you'd expect it, with all the tacticooled SKSs out there - I'm doing a good trick-out of my SKS. Mainly a nice staining of the stock/protective varnish, a stock shim for a better length of pull, and I need two more things to complete my SKS.

One is a leather buttcuff to cover up the shim meeting the finished wood, the other is a spring firing pin as my floating one is VERY aggressive on soft primers (yes, it's CLEAN). So where can I get these things? I'd like a dark brown buttcuff with a spare stripper clip pouch, and well a standard spring firing pin.

Other than that? It's got a set of Tech Sights, and that's it.

Here's the stock in the first staining, it's going to be a nice blood red when I'm done - glossy varnish after!

Anybody even know where to get the spring firing pins? I think I can work the leather part out, but I'm lost for a Canadian retailer or internet seller of those pins

Nice work on the stock. The SKS has a ton of potential. I stripped and tung oiled my stock and I love it. As for the Murray spring kits, I hear the springs are a bit dodgey. Keep your firing pin assembly clean and you should have no problems.

it is clean, just the inertia of the firing pin dents and sometimes sets off S&B or Prvi. I'll take a dodgy spring i can replace over an ND.

murray you said?

Yeah, look up murrays guns and you'll find it. Good guy to deal with. And price is reasonable. I bought one and I guess they made a small mistake in the shipping cost so when the envelope arrived here there was a crisp american $5 bill inside. Kinda made me chuckle.
Good peace of mind for the price.

Thanks a lot guys, but I'm surprised the american companies would ship to canada these days, I've had a few shops tell me no gun part is to be shipped across border

Nice to see an SKS get tricked out the "right way". I think when you're done it will look waaay better than tacticool mods could ever make it look, make sure to post pictures when it's all complete and back together.

It's gonna be my baby for good ammo. Now I kinda do want to get a cheap Chinese one for surplus and slap a plastic stock for comfort, but that will be my plinker. Not my SKS.

Yeah, I'll post pics of when it's all done, even a few before that :)

Here's thew second coat of stain. Sedona Red, btw.

Looks okay like this, I'll throw on a clear, glossy protective finish asap.

Okay so I made the stock shim, finished my stock completely and installed my spring firing pin. I'm still trying to find a leather buttstock cover as the shim is very ugly.

Here she is.

It looks awesome(minus the stock shim, can see why you want to cover that up), but the wood on the stock looks brilliant! Good job.

Thanks. I'll try to do a nice job if I end up making the buttcover myself.

Stock shim was designed to be covered up, so yeah it is ugly, but I'm happy with the rest of the stock. I might do a couple guns in the same style, but probably different colors.
