Hello all,

I hope this is right place to post my quetion. Basically I have RPAL but I do not have Hunting licence :( I know that I have to take hunting/long rifle course in order to get this licence but the problem is that recently I contacted with the instructor who gave me my restr/non restr courses and he told me that when hunting season is opened I can not take hunting course. So I have to wait until July acording to him. I am in Montreal, QC. Tell me please, does the same rule applies for all other provinces ? If, lets say, in some other province I can take hunting course during October - November, will I get my hunting licence (green card) and will it be valid in QC ? I just do not want to wait until next summer for my hunting licence :)

Thank you very much,
Vlad

Sounds like the instructor is busy hunting.......
Here in BC, the course is offered year round by different instructors.

Not sure what the rules are in Quebec, but I know of no such rule in Alberta. Why would they prevent you from hunting in the same season as you took your test?

VERY strange. Not sure what it's called in QC, but call your 'fish and game' department and ask them directly.

Hunting regs are provincial, so an Ontario or N.B license would not be valid for Quebec. I agree with other here call the Ministry of natural resources (provincial) and ask them about courses.

Not necessarily so.......most provinces recognize hunter safety courses from other provinces and many wave the course requirement if you've held a licence in another province but you are correct that a call to the proper authorities is the best way to get the answer.

Hmmmm. I seem to remember reading on this forum that Que does not recognize other province's certification. Or was that Ont, now I am unsure.

I agree with the others, that dosen't sound right. Call another instructor and natural resourses or who ever is in charge.

But you were still allowed to hunt the same year ou got your license right? It makes no sense to not let you take a course till the season is over.

I'm about an hour north of Mtl, and as far as I know they only give the hunting courses in the spring. Why? My guess is so that you recieve your hunters card with lots of time before hunting season...that would also allow them to sort out any problems. Quebec seems to run into lots of those...

I called to Info-Secur and spoke with them. I was told that according to Info Secure the hunting course/long rifle in Quebec should not be given only from second Sunday of September until second Sunday of November. The same info I found at Natural Resources website. All the rest of the year it is allowed to get this course and pass this test, BUT since most of instructors are hunters, it is very difficult to catch any of them in order to get the course. I found one place in about 25 minutes from Montreal where, most probably, I will be able to get this course at November 29. But could not reach anyone there yet. Will call back them tommorow and will update here on my success :)
