Got a load from a fine old fellow and it called for Benchmark with a magnum small rifle primer. So I loaded 25gr, 25.3, 25.6, 25.9 and headed off to the range. Got my best group in my Sako 223 Vixen with the 25.9gr load. Now I'll start messing around with seating depth. The bullet is a 50gr Speer TNT.
Did all of these loads with my new Dillon( none electric ) scale, really like the accuracy of this piece, as I was using a Lyman 1200 for everything and I'm not so sure it was as accurate as it claims to be.

Shot some 22 Hornet with 13gr of LiLgun powder and tried using Small Pistol primers instead of 6 1/2 primers that I was using in my previous loads. This seemed to give me much better groups and more consistent velocities. Now I have to deprime a whack of brass that I had primed with the 6 1/2 primers, oh well. FS

I've only reloaded for .223 (and now 17 FB) and Benchmark is the only powder I've ever used. I got some really good groups with it and never saw a reason to try anything else. I've only used small rifle primers though.

There is nothing like W748 in .223 in my opinion, but I think there is a good reason they call Benchmark, "Benchmark" - Especially with lighter bullets.

Benchmark isnt the best with heavy bullets in my rifles...I seem to do better with Varget.

I use 748 in gopher loads because of the nice metering.

FS, good to see your getting over your addiction to W748;)
Whats the new Dillon scale? Beam type:eek:

Yes beam type. I really like it. Sold off a few pounds of 748, so now I may even try some H335.
Going to work some more with the benchmark and the TNT bullets as I have one of those 1000 bulk bullet packs and a few thousand of these magnum small rifle primers. Maybe this new load will work well in the CZ 527 Full Stock rifle as well. FS
