Tried to buy a beretta neos locally on the weekend.

Made a deal with a young kid on the weekend. He said he would make the call to start the restricted transfer on monday. He asked for my pal info and I think I was dumb and sent him a photo of my pal..... Today I talked to him and he said he would call friday when we met at timmies to do the financials. Now I think we are not going to be able to transfer the gun then and their and me get an ATT.

So it seems that what he wanted to do was wait till he had cash in hand, then make the call to transfer and then wait for approval and then deliver the gun when it was convenient for him. Does this make sense? Is this how things are done? It seems ass backwards to me. I thought we would do the transfer and meet up and trade gun for cash.....

Am I missing something?

hmm seems to me i wouldn't start a transfer till i had cash in hand what if i transfered and you backed out of the deal but now it legally is your property. you would have to do the transfer back to the original owner not a risk i would take. money talks. also look at it like this if you walk into a gun store usually you have to pay for the gun fully before they will transfer.

It varies and both sides want to protect their backsides. I would reccommend this if possible.

Pay him half the money now. Once transfer is approved and att's secured meet and get the gun he gets the rest of his money.

Ideally I'd think like you. Do all the paperwork and then swap cash for gun, but the half payment method protects the seller from the buyer backing out.

On a non face to face deal it generally goes money, paperwork, ship gun.

I understand but...

I did not ask for anything. This is what he offered! He stated he would start transfer on Monday because he said it might take a couple weeks. Now its wait to meet him on Friday at a Tim Horton's. Then he states we can do the transfer right then and there. We all know that wont happen in a 30 minute window after he said it might take a few weeks. I would have no problem if he would have followed what he set up to do.... Then he backed out of it and then he promises to do it all at once on a table at Timmie's.

Does not make sense!

Is the pistol legit ? or could have been used in robberies, etc...

Better do it right the first time... otherwise you may be in for a big surprise. Normally, I think (and I could be wrong), Gun store would be able to help you with the transfer between two parties ?

How old is the kid ? Minors can't possed a gun or even owned one legally unless the pistol is registered under someone's name. May be that is why he is hesitant to transfer.

A transfer can be reversed!

If the buyer somehow backs out the seller can call and have the transfer cancelled.

In a face to face deal I wouldn't hesitate to start a transfer then get money when the gun is transferred and picked up, but some are paranoid.

In a gun store you pay before and have to wait so I see no issue with it, as long as there is some level of trust.

If you feel uncomfortable then F it.

We all start some where! However I would not want to be your first trade on this EE.

Money, Transfer, possession.

Think of it this way. It is theft and fraud if he never delivers the pistol and after the transfer if he never delivers it he is in possession of a firearm that he does not own. That's pretty serious.

In my EE exchanges I have always paid first and never been ripped off. I have the seller's details, their trader rating and the police will know if anything bad happens.

When the seller starts the transaction they give you a confirmation number. You call the CFC to complete the transfer and that is the first time you know if the number is legit or not. That would be your first sign that something is up.

You are getting first time jitters. There's no reason to feel there is anything untoward until something untoward happens.

Really don't get your attitude sir. The seller set the terms. He asked for a copy of my pal. Then a few days later he changes how the deal will progress and the ground rules! What did I do wrong here? Is it that I expected him to do what he said he would do?

If that's what makes you not want to deal with me I can certainly respect that! However please understand that I would not want to deal with you either as you seem to think it is fine for someone to change the deal after they set the ground rules!

I would not have a problem following those rules btw if that was the way it was set out from the start. Just don't throw a meeting in a Tim hortons to do the transfer and an ATT at 5pm on a Friday afternoon!

Cheers

He was responding to the quote and poster of that quote not you.

okay

In the End I f'ed it. I just did not like the change in ground rules and the fact that all of a sudden he thought we could do all the paperwork at a tim hortons on Friday afternoon.

I think the guy is a good kid. Just dont like people changing the deal in the middle of it. I know at times stuff happens to change things. THis just seemed like it was just done on a whim!

Nice! Glad things worked out for you in the end.
As mentioned already, being comfortable with the deal is paramount. If you think something is odd, then walk away just as you did. There will always be a deal down the road.

Another suggestion if I may, when doing private transactions, as in person to person, not store to person, you can also have the seller sign a receipt when meeting in person and handing over the money. Same as a vehicle... "I john Doe agree to sell ###X with serial number ####x to blah blah blah" Funds equalling blah blah received on blah.... you get the point. Just make sure to get their full name and signature also so if things do go south you have something to take to the authorities.

enjoy your purchase!
