Does anyone know of an in-depth source of trigger design available anywhere? I've searched online and not found much that isn't dedicated to 1022s or AR15s. I don't want that. I want to learn how they work and what makes a good trigger and what doesn't.

Gunsmithing since 1967 and I have never seen what you ask...

Basically a good trigger needs to have a crisp let off, with no discernible movement before or after... how you get that can depend a lot on the action.

If you do some searching for patents, you may find some of the information you're looking for. For example, here's the patent for the Walker trigger design used in Remington 700s: https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/7a/dc/77/5875de9d061927/US2514981.pdf

There are also quite a few YouTube videos on 1911 trigger jobs, and these videos will often discuss how the geometry of the sear and hammer surfaces affect the performance and safety of the trigger.

Stuart Otteson had written quite a bit on trigger design but his primaary interest was in lightweight target triggers. I'll look through some more of my stuff and see what I can find.

The Jerry Kuhnhausen shop manuals go very in-depth into the particular platform discussed. They're published by Heritage Gun Books, and they're available from Brownells. I'm confident that you'd appreciate the way he described things.

Another book that you'd appreciate is Charlie Cutshaw's Tactical Small Arms of the 21st Century. From the outside, it doesn't look very impressive, resembling a Gun Digest Annual. Inside - it's very, very informative; there's way too much to mention here.

Is that the book that goes through all the then-current target triggers, both new made and converted from factory housings by various fellows?
I think I have a copy, if so, buried in my stacks o shi...stuff.
