I have a weatherby vanguard. I like the rifle but the trigger is not so nice. The creep is horrible and rough. I can adjust it to where it is decent but then the safety will not work. As a hunting rifle I feel it necessary to have a functioning safety.

Is there a way to adjust the trigger w/o losing the safety ?

Or should I just switch to a timney or rifle basix trigger ?

it's possible to grind the front surface of the trigger finger lever where the safety plunger blocks it or machine down the plunger...I've done it both ways...but, if you had to pay a 'smith to do it you'd be better off buying a Timney trigger....I did one for a friend (ground the front of the trigger VERY carefully) and one for myself where I machined the plunger...and I work cheap for friends and even cheaper for myself...

pull the trigger out ( one tiny snap ring) and check that trigger is square where it contacts sear. Mine was not ,stoned it square and a bit more
Now has no creep, safety functions but you do get a tiny bit more overtravel.

Mine sucked too, felt like it'd been dipped in sand. Couldn't be adjusted anywhere near acceptable. Good news was I was able to get pretty good accuracy out of it, but always had the one "flyer". All trigger. I've used both Timney and Rifle Basix and except for a bit of grinding to allow the safety plate to swivel, the Timney was the easy fix for the Vanguard. The RB I stuck in a Stevens was a tricky little bugger to get set properly but did the job - I like their design. The Timney in the V'Guard turned it into a nail driver. Great trigger.

My trigger on my remington had horrible creep and inconsistant pull. Cost me $70 cash for a gunsmith to fix the creep and bring the pull down to 2.5lbs, works great everytime. I know those triggers can get pricey-I'd just take it to a 'smith if I were you.
