Just got my first AR (BCM M4) and want to know how most people prefer to secure it for storage / transport. I have the combination type trigger locks for my pistols but they don't quite fit on the AR( shaft is to short) I prefer combo over key type for the ease of use ( and no key to forget) Thanks for any positive feedback.

Use a cable lock - the bottom of the trigger guard can be removed so a trigger lock will not work

Pfft. Any lock can be removed. Ever heard of bolt cutters? They will cut through any cable lock faster than you can remove the trigger guard.

The point is to be legal and both a cable lock through the action or a trigger lock is legal.
I use a combination trigger lock on all my AR's. Simple, easy, and legal with no key.

So to the OP, use whatever you want as long as it's legal.

What combination trigger locks do you use ? Mine don't seem to have a long enough shaft and only just lock.

Keys get lost (and I already have way to many) so all combo for me... All set to the same combo too.
I prefer cables as they prevent separating upper/lower or slide/frame and chambering/locking the bolt on a round but having the action/bolt moving freely aggravates me so some guns won't work (bolt, pump...)
On semi I realease the bolt so it rest against the cable, spring tension hold it in place.

So cable lock for Semi, trigger lock for the rest is what I do.

I use a cable lock on my AR. Upper and lower locked together its all good.

All my other trigger locks are keyed, 3x master locks keyed alike, and a pile of those little black screw together locks so not too many keys to keep track of.

Oh and I have bolt cutters in the truck if you forget your keys ;) :p

Have you tried flipping them upside down? My trigger locks don't fit well unless I flip them upside down, then they work just fine.

I will give that a try Thanks. My firearms are all secure at home just want to be legal when travelling back and forth to the range.I like combo locks for the ease uf use. No lock is going to stop someone anyway if they really want it.

I use keyed master trigger locks. I have to turn it sideways for my AR as the bad lever gets in the way. I think i'm going to be upgrading to combos soon though. One less key on the ring is nice.
