Got a chance to test the trigger pull on my Vanguard in .257Wby and it is about 5 3/4lbs. A bit on the heavy side I would say. Is there a good drop in replacement trigger available?

It all depends what you are comfortable with. For a hunting rifle I find 3 lbs. acceptable. I recently worked over a trigger on a Howa (same as a Vanguard) heavy bbl .308 trigger for a friend. As this rifle was going to be used for punching paper and not much if any hunting the trigger was worked down to 2 1/4 lbs. It took a fair bit of work to get rid of some annoying creep - which was the main complaint. The design of this trigger is very similar to a Timney.

The Vanguard trigger is adjustable down to about 2.5 pounds...at least it is on mine. Don't take my word for it, just go to Google. You may find some mis-information and outright b.s., but a little common sense goes a long way. Over travel and creep are not as good as can be had with some aftermarket triggers but it's acceptable to me for a hunting rifle.
I gave mine 3/4 turn in after the point where it would not stay cocked. Half a turn may be safe on yours or it may take a full turn.
There are two screws. Just make sure you play with the correct one only and you'll be fine.
