Hello experienced reloaders;

Can somebody advise on trim-to length of the bottle-neck cartridges, what is more practical? By the manual, i.e. 010" off the max, or to stay CLOSER to Max but still below it? Some threads say the longer neck is better, if not beyond the upper limit.
Thanks,

Consistency is critical for accuracy. The "trim to length" will help give you the reliability needed for semi and pump actions.
Normally I trim each batch to the shortest once fired case, discarding any below factory specs.

Going longer than the recommended case length can potentially be dangerous. If the neck gets too long and goes into the leade area, the case will not be able to open and the the bullet may not leave the case.

This basically now a small bomb you have in the chamber, if the pressure can't go out the barrel, it's your guess as to where it will make its escape.

I trim mine .015 below Case Length specs, and re trim when they are .005 off the spec.

Yep, exactly what I have been doing for the last 40 years.
