Trimming 7.62 x 54R

What a surprise when I went to trim 7.62 x 54R brass in my forester, The big rim won't even fit in the hole for the collet holder.

Guess I'll have to try something else. Who is using what for their 54R brass and how do you like it?

400 grit wet dry sandpaper, wet. Fast and easy, leaves the rim a little sharp though (seriously, it's fast when wet, don't get excited and take off too much)

i use the lyman case trimmer ..works great and fast..dont have the motorized unit just turn the crank by hand a few times and it is done..can easily fly through a 100 rounds

I use Lee length gauge + cutter... cheap solution for rarely used calibers. Motorized by cordless drill. $6 per caliber + $8 universal cutter.

223 and 308 go straight to Giraud trimmer.

This is the route I thought I would eventually take, I just thought I would check what some of the McGuyvers would come up with. For me, this will be a rarely trimmed caliber, likely more of a summer fling.

Yes. Trimming is just removing a bit of metal, how you do it is kinda irrelevant, the doohickeys save time.... but... I'm a student with more time than money. The 54r headspaces on the rim, so case length is totally non-critical as long as it's under the maximum.

this caliber is what made me buy the lyman case trimmer..i have lee guages for everything from 9mm to 300 mag..... except for this damn rusky..then buddy at wholesale says there are a few that they dont make..that did it for me..

Echo of the above. I use the Lee system for trimming my 7.62X54R brass. Once in a while I'll get a case with the rim too large to fit in the shell holder so with a bit of emery cloth and a drill....case solved(no pun intended).

RCBS trimmer with the 3way cutter adapter, same as all my other brass. Works great.
