Hey I just picked up 100 new rem brass in 223. I read around a bit and figured out I should FL size the first time around and then neck size there after. I'm wondering weather I should be trimming down the case after the first FL size on new brass? And what lenght should I trim it to? My hornady recipe book says max case length is 1.760" and to trim to 1.750". Is it nessesary to trim right down to 1.750" or just trim to below 1.760", say consistenly at 1.757". Thanks

I realize consistancy in a beautiful thing when reloading so if I were to trim to 1.750" and then reload those shells a few times would they all be the same length or should I get anal and trim every time?

I just use the Lee sizing system which trims all my cases exactly the same each time I reload them. It's quick and easy to check (don't have to measure them because the trimmer is set to the 1.750" automatically) because if the brass is already at proper length then it doesn't get near the trimming blade.
Check it out and you won't believe how simple of a system it is.

If the brass will chamber in your rifle as is there is no need to Full Length Resize the first time. This will save some wear and tear on your brass.

Fireform the brass first and then trim to a consistent length after that if the case length varies much.
