Hey all
Recently looked at a Tristar Sporting O/U( http://www.tristararms.com/products/over-under/sporting/ ) at the local shop, and was quite impressed with the shotgun. Nothing fancy like a browning but light enough, smooth, ported barrels, and it fit like it was made for me. Just wondering if anyone has/had one and their opinion and experience with it. What is the general consensus on them? Only $1000 brand new. Is it possible to get a good quality O/U for that?

This is one of the Turkish manufacturers similar to Huglu. I think there are a few of these companies out of Turkey building shotguns for companies like Savage, and Weatherby. Use some google fu and search them out. I checked this out years ago, realize that there is a built in prejudice on the shotgun forums against these guns, typically from the "B" gun, and high volume clay shooters. Need to be sure that there is a warranty and it is readily available for Canadians.

A lot Turkish guns started out with a bad reputation, and then most got better, one could credit Mossberg threatning to pull their contract over the Silver Reserve for that. Some started out making good guns and have improved, CZ, Webley & Scott, Akkar, ATA are among the better ones. Tri-star and Yildiz started off iffy and have greatly improved in recent years. Look for one with a warranty dealer in Canada, Akkar for instance does not have one, luckily I haven't need one for mine either.

I have an Armsan 612. Got it from tradex a few years ago. As best I can tell it's the same as the Tristar. I'm guessing the o/us are from the same place. Either way the semi auto has been a great gun for me. I've got a few thousand rounds through it, sporting clays and hunting.

I have a tristar setter. My advice is run. Run away fast. The only reason I still have mine is I can't bring myself to drop the problems onto another gunner. The warranty is from the states and I had to be a complete ass hole to the turkey factory to get parts sent from the states.
It fits good and the bluing is great but again from my experience I'd suggest another brand
