I guess what I'm getting at is this:
Right now, shouldn't we be trying to show the general public that we as hunters and sport shooters are just that; hunters and sport shooters. I can't speak for everywhere or every organization but my range won't let us shoot targets resembling people. For ispc my understanding is they don't want you to even wear combat fatigues, as well as shooting targets not resembling people. This is because they don't want the public to think we are training for getting into a gunfight. Buying stuff like body Armour "Just because" wouldn't help our case with the "fudds" you guys speak of. Like buddy said go ahead fill your boots and play army. Im not saying we shouldnt be allowed to have them, i have LOTS i dont need but want just because, but it's not the best for the firearms community image right now IMO
