I have an Uberti 1851 Navy cap and ball revolver that is misfiring. It seems to have too soft of a hammer fall. When the hammer is in the down position, it can be pulled back about a quarter inch with only a very light touch of one finger. It would appear that the hammer spring has gone soft. Can it be repaired by rehardening the spring, and how is this done?
Thanks Pete

Well it's possible to "re heat treat" your spring this is a better plan........
For about 8 bucks US you can order a NEW one;)
vtigunparts.com
I've ordered from them quite abit, they ship fast and are great to deal with:)

I got some new main springs from Dixie Gun Works a few months ago. The same spring fits about everything in that line. They are cheap and they were fast to ship them. They will get you one inside a week and for less than $20 delivered. If you don't have any luck finding one, I have a few new ones, I could part with one for you.
As dixda said too, make sure the screw that tensions the main spring is tight first.
Let me know if you don't make out and need some help.

Just get it red hot then submerg it in 30 wt motor oil then once its cool polish it up good so its nice and silver.
Now lay it on a of 1/4 inch steel plate over a propane burner and watch as the plate gets hot the spring it changes colour once its a nice deep blue flip it off the hot steel plate and let it cool.
I make springs all the time like this from old trowels rake tines ect.
aint gona hurt to try!
just watch ya dont burn your fingers  I have a few times.
A thin long piece of wire is the best way to move it about when its red hot.

Theres other ways of doing this but the way i do it is easy as im lazy like a pet Coon :D

I have a pair of these Uberti's and would love to get into firing them is there a group in the Fraser Valley that could help me out and where is the best place to get a starter kit etc..
Also any thoughts on registration of these, a verifier told me I did not need to.

Cheers

The "Verifier" is wrong........Original Blackpowder pieces that are "deemed" antiques do not need Registration.
"Modern" made Replicas such as Uberti's etc. are RESTRICTED firearms in Canada and need to be Registered as such;)
