I was trying out a Norinco 1897 clone this morning. Yes, I know that they are not Winchester quality, so we can skip all the hate towards Chinese guns.

Twice, the plug that threads into the muzzle end of the pump tube came out, as in pulled out. I may have been racking it forward fairly hard, but it seems that the plug/end cap is a tad too small, or the tube is a tad too big. The thread looks good on the cap, not stripped. I turned it back in and tightened it to line up properly. Seems like it fit okay.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix that? The cap needs to be able to unscrew in order to unscrew the barrel.

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I have never "mechanic'ed a Norinco 97 clone but have watched a pile of people use them in the Cowboy game as rough as can be and have never seen one come apart.

You say the threads on the cap appear ok, Are the treads on the tube sufficient to grip if the two pieces were a better fit...If so I would try a paper or cardboard shim (so to speak) that will easily conform to the thread pattern between both pieces and see if it will suck up tight. If the threads on the tube aren't "well formed" enough to grip I think your hooped except to drill a "removable keeper pin" through both pieces...aint gonna be purty but it will make the gun usable again.

I will try that. Thank you! I have used that method over the years on various items. I'll take a better look at the tube and cap. I watched a video last night about one shotgun where the wood was a bit too long and didn't allow the cap to screw in properly.

Gas quality teflon tape ?

Grizz

I had a real 97 and if you did not get the magazine fully seated in the breach (possibly because the magazine/barrel clamp was loose) it would not lock in the threads properly and when you pumped it it might come apart. Not a gun problem but an operator problem.

The pump wood was, indeed, too long, preventing the thread on the cap from going all the way in properly. Trimmed the wood at the cap end, gave the thread on the cap a wrap of teflon. cleaned all the crap out of the magazine tune and the pump tube. I'll see if it works now.

Deaner said he will slick the action up, so I won't know it is the same shotgun.

One hurdle hopefully cleared.
