I looked over several pages of these forums and have yet to find a review from anyone that may have purchased a Troy Defense 'Northern Guard".

I am looking to buy my first AR15 and am considering this rifle.

Has anyone purchased one?

Could you provide me with some feedback. Likes / dislikes reliability etc etc.

Any information and/or feedback would be much appreciated.

They were pretty limited run... I've certainly not seen them anywhere recently, though I know a few retailers have them. Can't speak to their rifles, but Troy accessories are quality.

For similar money you could consider a primo Daniel Defense from Wolverine. I can attest to the high quality fit and finish on the DD product!! They run like tops!

I have a 10.5" Troy Northern Guard. My only complaint was that the trigger was poor considering what I paid. Other than that it seemed well built.

They are excellent high quality rifles.

I have one and because of how it handles and how lightweight it is it has become my primary rifle for training and four courses.

Before I even consider purchasing one I did a lot of background checking and figuring out where a lot of the parts are sourced from.

My lower parts kit is "S S" marked. Same as in Colt or other high milspec considered rifles.

Thats LW Schnieder. All my LPK come from them.

Gas Block. BCG. Buffer tube/Buffer, Etc are from CMT.

Receivers are Anchor Harvey from the ones I inspected and have an excellent finish.

Everything about this rifle is top quality but right off the bat you are already getting a free floated platform with the Alpha rail as well as a pair of Troy flip sites.

The battle ax stock that comes with it is not really my thing so I replaced it but you were also getting the upgrade to Troy trigger guard.

These were in a limited run so you don't hear too much about them.

But if you can get your hands on one either brand-new or one on the secondary market that is been properly cared for and you've made a good choice.

The only thing I wasn't able to figure was who makes the barrel. I know that it is chrome Molly vanadium and button rifled.

Other than that they are a good platform and an excellent rifle to get into at a great price point for what you're getting.

The fit and finish quality of parts in the way it performs without any issues I would put it at the same level as Colt no problem

Be aware that a 14.5 won't get across the US border legally where 16 is the minimum. If you think you might compete down south, get a 16.

I just bought one from RDSC with the 16.1" barrel. I was looking at a DDMK18 but got the Troy for almost 300 less then sticker price and less then the DD. Its my first AR so I cant compare it to much, but I like it. I bought the squid grips too. put 80 rounds thru it today and I love it. Gotta wait for my LTATT tho :(
