I inherited an older troy rail from a buddy of mine who no longer has need of it. i took it home this afternoon and tried to put it on my norinco, it wont fit in, it fits ok on the front portion but it wont go in on the back end. theres about an eighth of an inch of extra room on the slip ring. advice??

slip ring? Are you referring to the delta ring? If you have a Troy free float rail, you have to remove the delta ring first before installing. Otherwise it won't work.

i've always heard of it as the slip ring, its the one at the end of the barrel that fits over and compresses the handguards. the rail i have is supposed to just drop in, it gets tightened by bolts to keep it together. My buddy had it on his issued c8 when we were overseas and it fit fine

Are you talking about the TROY MRF? the only way it wouldn't fit as you describe it is an out of spec barrel nut.

i got a magpull moe for my norc m4 and i had to dremel the front lower handguard.i was told by another cgn'er that norcs are 6.25" and standard carbine are 6.5".so you have 1/4 " to trim from the front slot of the handguard.i will later on have to trim the rear lower handguard as it dosen't really fit right...

Do a search this has been covered many times

I just bought fab defence quad rail from Wolverine and have similer problems. If I use a big enough hammer I'll get it, but I don't want wreck my new toy. I think I'll send mine back to Virden and let them fool around with it.
The instructions said it would be a very tight fit..... she's tight alright!

ahhhhhh... the OP posted about TROY rails, I just realized that these could be the "Drop in handguard style" rails. Eesh!
I'm not sure what is meant by "but it wont go in on the back end. theres about an eighth of an inch of extra room on the slip ring."

Do you mean that the handguards move forward and back... worse, fall off because there is 1/8" gap between Delta Ring and rear of the handguards?

If so, then, the handguard cap sounds like it is too far forward. Or, the Delta Ring assembly is so far out of spec it would boggle the mind.

My advice would be to lose the "drop-in" rail and go free-floating. :)
