Tru-Oil and WD 40?

Why are you trying to speed up the drying process? Apply it thin enough and by the next day it is usually ready for another coat. Being in a hurry just takes all the fun out of it!

Armour All is only going to work if you apply it and wipe off. Then apply the Tru Oil in thin layers and rub it quickly until it is dry., Then the Armour All is applied in the same manner between coats.Takes a bit of practice to get onto this process but works just fine.
Scott...

freekin hell who would mix wd40 with whatever for a stock finish I swear

This x2!? I don't get it, It's easy enough to get a soft, fisheye free satin finish with tru oil without the armour all, what's the benefit of it other than rushing to get It done? Is the finish actually curing if your apying 2-3 dozen coats in a day?

when you're finishing a stock with oil, remember this
once a day for a week
once a week for a month
once a month for a year
once a year for a lifetime
Isnt that only for linseed oil? Tru oil sure doesn't need that.

after sanding or buffing with steel wool depending on your goal with your stock for smoothness or just preservation/water resistance.

-I apply a liberal (evil word sorry) coat of true oil all over the stock for first application covering the inside and outside of the stock making sure there is no beading
-let dry for 24hrs or if in front of a fan ~8-12hrs
-Buff with steel wool
-apply true oil again to all parts of the wood stock in a slightly thinner coating
-let dry for 24hrs or if in front of a fan ~8-12hrs
-Buff with steel wool
-Apply true oil this time only to exterior parts in a thin coating
-let dry for 24hrs or if in front of a fan ~8-12hrs

*repeat till last coats
2nd last coat buff with a course cloth, then one last true oil application and buff with cloth or towel till ###y

I generally apply between 5 to 8 coats of oil before the stock is finished to my preference. portion out single use amounts into a little container to dab on with your fingers, i recommend using rubber or latex gloves for this job.

WD40 should only be used on your metal parts to either degrease or clean metal parts before re-oiling. If you are looking to degrease the stock I recommend starting with dishsoap then non-bleach tilex or a spray on degreaser rinsing with water. If your looking to remove the stain or refurb bbq coating you can also use natural wood stripper then rub with a brush and spray with the hose. Do this outside or it will clog up your pipes. (Warm weather recommended)
