Here are a few pics of my 'not-so-new-anymore' Chevy TrailBlazer. Now here's the story behind it.

This past Wednesday, I was coming home from Quebec City and was crossing the Plaster Rock Hwy (connects Plaster Rock, NB to Miramichi, NB) when a biggun jumped out in front of me as I came over the top of a hill. I was doing about 85 km/h and I had room in the opposite lane so a moved over - but the SOB came right over with me. I moved further over but started to catch the soft shoulder and was heading for the ditch so I jerked the wheel hard-right (but probably too hard). The ass-end started to slide a bit then I hit a bump at a funny angle and it was all over. The ass-end came around hard and caught the soft-shoulder on my side causing me to roll down the embankment. It rolled 1-1/2 times and landed on its roof. It likely woulda rolled further into the trees but there was lot of snow in the ditch and it stopped me pretty quickly.

I came out of it relatively OK. I have a few scratches on my left arm, a stiff-sore lower back, a good story to tell and a REAL BIG hard-on for exacting some revenge this fall. Please, oh please let me get my name drawn this year.

And as my wife was driving out to pick me up, she said 2 deer crossed in front of her. Luckily, no incidence to report there.

Anyone else have any good stories to tell and pics to show on the same topic?

Thats a little to close for comfort, could have turned out alot worse. The Trailbazer seems to have held up pretty well also.Glad to hear your injuries weren't serious.(could have been very ugly)

I hit a bear doing 80kph,it came up out of a ditch along the river.Caved in the front drivers side of my 4x4 ranger. The bear slid down the hwy for a long ways rolled a couple of times got up and ran up the mtn.

Same kind of thing happened to me....came out running from the left, so I swerved left to clear him. The bugger turns around (he would have been clear) and runs right in front of me. I was in a 4 door Suzuki Sidekick and, like you mentioned, another swerve would have caused me to roll so I held on and smoked him! Luckily everything turned out ok.

Oh yeah...it was a racoon, not a moose...

A couple of spring ago a firefly hit a moose COW and a calf. The chev firefly was coming over the hill, hit the calf and rolled the car roof up like a can of spam, then hit the cow which dropped into the cars front seats and stateddoing the FUNKY CHICKEN as it was dying, then car?moose slamed into ditch.
Final count 1 dead firefly
1 dead mother
1 daughter in coma for about 3 months, not ok,brain injury
1 dead cow
1 dead calf
If they had of been drining a mid to full size SUV do you think they might have come out in better shape?
We get lots of wrecks with auto/deer and auto/moose in northern ont and this doesn't include bear/mini-van collisions

I'm glad you turned out reletively alright. Trucks can be replaced, people can't.

Hope you get a tag this year. It's meat would be some compensation for the insurance raise.

Tiger, Rush right out and buy a lottery ticket.
Luck is riding on your shoulders right now.
Any encounter involving a moving vehicle and a moose, in which the people in the vehicle are relatively unscathed, is a near miracle.

it LOOKS fixable... the TB/Envoy use really stiff hydroformed framerails, just like the Sierra/Silverado, and I wouldn't be surprised if the rails are fully boxed too. Downside is, said frames are a b!tch to straighten out if they're bent/twisted.

Are you getting that rig repaired or a new truck?

Its up in the air right now. You see, I sell chemicals to the pulp & paper industry and this is what my company gave me to drive.

The estimates should be ready today and from there the company will decide whether to replace it or repair it. The fellas at the autobody shop think it is probably cheaper to replace the vehicle than to repair it. You should know that most big companies with a lot of company vehicles on the road don't put collision on their vehicles because they have so many vehicles to insure (we have over 600 vehicles in North America alone). Instead, they put all the other required coverage on them and pay out-of-pocket if there are repairs to do - it works out being a lot cheaper by saving hundreds-of-thousands-of dollars in collision coverage when there may only be 1 or 2 accidents a year.

Thanx to everyone for the kind words and well-wishes. The cuts on my arm are healing nicely but my lower back is a problem. Everyday since the accident, it has been alernating between feeling very good to feeling very stiff/sore. From experience, I know it'll take a little time to settle down.

Talk to ya later.

bonez2.jpg

no moose/deer or racoons were injured during the day just my pride haha

Update with a sad ending

The good news:
I've had my truck back for several weeks - Hogan's Collision repair did a fan-tab-ulous job on it - the bill = $16,500

The bad news:
Our moose draw results were out yesterday - and another year goes by without getting my name drawn - Bullwinkle, your getting off lucky!!

Oh well, guess I'll have to vent my frustrations on geese, ducks and white-tails this fall.

I hit a whitetail doe once and the out come was a heavy insurance bill and one angry mother it was her car I was doing 90 k/ph took out the whole front end and then bounce of the passenger window/door and landed in the ditch tow trucked me home $5000 damage thing is you never know when this critters are going to show up on the road count your blessings and like COLD LAKE said buy a lotto ticket that was your lucky day and I hope you draw that moose tag GOOD LUCK
