Truck "scabbard".....

I've taken to carrying the shotgun around in the truck a lot lately because we seem to have an overabundance of porcupines that keep quilling my dogs, and other nasty critters...

Now, I've been putting it in a hard case with a trigger lock behind the seat of the truck. However, this does not make for relatively easy access in the case of needing it in a hurry.
Do any of you guys know of, or have some kind of setup that would allow one to keep the shotty in the truck, locked in a "scabbard" or something like that? That way, I could leave off the trigger lock, and just have it locked in it's case / scabbard thingy. I would want it to also be attached somehow to the truck so a thief couldn't walk with it, and a cop would have less of a hairy eyeball....

Put it in the back of the cab and throw a blanket over it? Totally legal.

does not have to have lock on while you are present, grey area if you leave it just like a locked house, i would suggest something like a Kolpin gun boot that you can unpaddalock once as needed and still be handy as a scabbard to meet the letter of the law and then relocked while the vehicle is left unattended....

i have an old jeans leg sewn onto the back of the seat cover . tilt the seat ahead, and there it is. makes a perfect short bbl shotgun scabbard. i sewed the small end shut, and it works good

I like the jeans leg idea! Except, it's in a pickup truck, so I don't have anyplace to sew it to. But, GREAT idea!

I'll look into tthe gun boot a bit more, I saw one at crap tire and was thinking it might work. Have to investigate further. Don't like the blanket idea. Want it to be secured for when I have to leave the truck parked in town or something.

I usually keep it in a unlocked hard case, under the rear bench seat - works like a charm.

Driver seat forward, one click to open the case and it's out. Always remaining well concealed is very important to these COs and Mounties

I would take the jeans idea and stick it under the seat then sew a zipper to the open end and put a small combination padlock on it set combination except for the last number. when you run into porky flip the last number unlock the zipper and pull out your shotgun. This should comply with the law as the gun is out of sight in a locked container.

why would you keep it in a locked container?

well like i said, if you have a pickup truck, get a seat cover. sew the jeans leg to the top back of the seatcover, behind the seat. thats what ive done for the last several trucks. it works great. if your worryed about locking it, get a short peice of cable, and lock it to the seatbelt stud on the floor, or around the seatbracket itself.

Your vehicle door locks act as a lock.
No need to double lock it. Just put it out of sight.

I remember some bench seat covers which had a long slide-in pocket at the front of the bench, below your knees. Totally inconspicuous, but very handy.

I had the seat cover type for my Ranger and it was a great, out of sight but still handy way of carrying a shotgun in the truck.
If you look around, stateside, you may locate what you are looking for.

Unfortunately, I don't have bench seats. But I do remember those seat covers. Had some in the old Dusters I used to own (and race)..

Kept my bong and ... oh sorry, that was meant for another board...
