True lenght M4 barrel?

blackwater is a training facility, blackwater the company re:contractors, is now XE.
cover your ass symdrom after iraqi governors wanted contractors held accountable for several civilian deaths. the new company with new contracts this way cannot be held accountable for incidents that occured earlier. M4's are also Full auto capable and not just about barrel length. contours and profile and type of steel used also factor into the designation. moderators and industry experts have covered what constitutes makes and models quite well here so a shout out to them with a thanks.

It's your opinion, I respect that, but it's not true. I'm not saying they don't make good AR's, they do, but it's not at the same level as LMT or Colt.

Stag is owned by CMT.
CMT manufactures parts for Colt. Colt uses these parts in their M4s.

But ya, Stag is junk compared to Colt. THAT'S true... [/sarcasm]

LMT and CMT can do whatever they want for the price they are paid, like any contractors. They are capable of doing a lot of stuff, from low end to highend. Instead of saying LMT or CMT or whatever is better than another, you have to look at that particular line of product offered.

For example, both LMT and CMT makes fire control part, but in the Colt factory someone actually sits down and check the hardness of the hammer.

Do i care - yes, after the hammer spring in my bushmaster lower snapped!

Bushmaster??? Now you opened a new can of worms GT. No one in this thread even mentioned it to be on par with Colt, LMT and Stag. Subliminally I was advised to stay away from it. Please educate me if this is not the case.:D

Well, not saying bushmaster is bad - the hammer spring broke after over 10,000 rounds.

However, I am saying that every little part counts.

The reputation of the manufacuter counts but the aftermarket support is important too - who is it supporting LMT, STAG or whatever you choose - in my case, where am I going to buy a hammer spring if it snaps?

No one sells a hammer spring on its own these days - so as a consumer have to make sure that you can squeeze it out of the importer or dealer if it breaks!!!

The M4 is a CQC rifle with a 10.5" barrel. I also really like the stag 2T model, it however is an AR15/M16 however you can order the 10.5" barrel or whole upper and just swap it out. I have Also been considering the stag model with the 6.8 rather than the 556 as it is truly a devastating round. check youtube
Aaaaaarrrrggghhhh!

POP!

(that was my head exploding ala Scanners)

Oh yeah, and Plonk!

WHOA! Thanks for all the replies guys. I know you guys are all passionate and all, but WOW! I guess you really can't go wrong with Stag, LMT, Colt or KAC. Only thing is Colt and KAC are just completely out of reach for me. Even Stag and LMT are barely affordable! LOL. I was looking at the ARMS EAST website and they sell the Stag 2T for $1835, does anybody know where else to buy? Also, those who do own the 2T, can you comment on fit&finish, overall quality, accuracy etc. How do you like the Samson handguard? I really like the look of have the A2 front sight and flip up rearsight. Would probably be adding a EOtech holographic at some point, would that be ok with the front A2 sight?

If you call ArmsEast, they'll tell you if there's a dealer with Stags in your neighbourhood - ArmsEast is the importer for Stag. It would be adviseable to get in touch with them either way, you let them know exactly what you want and they'll tell you how much, and provide options and guidance.

Thanks so much!

CMT is a reported subcontractor for some Colt parts.

However its small parts. Its not Apples and Apples to a Colt - Stag comparison

Well, having personally seen boxes of forgings marked Property of Colt Defence stacked floor to ceiling at CMT, I'd say it definitely goes bigger than small parts. But small parts for sure, everything but the safety selectors. Don't know if Colt makes their own of those, but they're definitely not CMT safetys.

It goes well beyond M16/M4 parts. I've watched everything from 1911 magwells to M-203 receivers being machined there.

Also, same subcontractors do the barrels, chroming, phosphating, and anodizing, to the same specifications.

And, CMT does complete M4 top ends for M16 to M4 fleet conversions. Whether that is direct sales or as the subcontractor I have no idea, if domestic, I suspect it's sub work, for foreign sales, they sell directly. I do know they do tonnes of business with the Israelis, both in M16 FOW spares to machining the major assemblies for Israel's new rifle (almost all of which was machined in New England, mostly on Uncle Sam's dime). There used to be a retired IDF General working there overseeing the project.

Colt USA can, of course, make every part of the M4, but they don't, not all the time, anyway.

I would make an educated guess (based on examining current production Colt LE guns, not info from CMT) that since the purchase of Diemaco, CMT is cutting less parts for Colt USA, at least for parts that Colt Canada also produces, it just stands to reason. I'm pretty sure that Colt Canada doesn't do the M-203 though.

Materially speaking, the difference between a 6920 and a standard 1R is the 4150 barrel on the 6920 and 4140 barrel on the semi-auto 1R. The current 1R we are selling (technically the G3R in Stag parlance) has the 4150 1/7 barrel and IS materially identical, but maybe prettier in finish details. (Edit: That's a mistake, they use the M16 extractor spring, which is different from the extractor spring in the 6920, though we have both in inventory, price is ~$1 IIRC).

We sell hammer springs! :D Haven't had to sell any to anyone who's broken one of ours though. Who breaks (quality) hammer springs? (I kid!)

I worked for Walt at Armseast for awhile and yes the fit and finish of Stags is excellent. For the price the 2T is the best deal around and Walt backs what he sells.
