I bought the correct thread-size Truglo site, it's the elongated fibre-optic type which threads perfectly in the original hole.
The problem however is that when it's fully tightened, it doesn't line up with the axis of the barrel, it's about 45-degrees off.

Would it be OK if I dipped the threads in Loctite and turn the sight to the point where it lines up with the barrel? I'm hoping that the Loctite will make up for the "slack" (1/4 turn torque), will this work?

You could do that but then you would have a sight that is mounted a bit high. It sounds like this is a replacement for a front shotgun bead sight. What you might want to do is take a file or dremmel and remove the bottom thread material so that you can install the sight to its proper depth and line it up. If it goes past the barrel point remove it, ad some loctite and install so that it is true with the barrel.
