Trying Loads there is no data for.

Does anyone here try loading cartridges/powder combo's that there is no printed data available for.
With several new powders showing up in the market, I'm sure there is a few "experimental" reloaders out there developing new loads.

I would like to try reloading my 222 Remington with Hodgdon Superformance, but cannot find any printed data for it.
What is the best method for finding a starting level? Compared to similar powders in other cartridge data, then transfer to the 222 Remington?

Phone Hodgdon. When I was developing loads for my re-barreled 219 Donaldson wasp the guys and gals on the help desk were awesome in helping me. I mostly talked with Sierra.

If you go to this site they have load data for 22-250, but not for 222 rem.

for the 22-250 it lists data for the heavier grain bullets, but you may be able to find the the bullet gr your using and start with min load ... AT YOUR OWN RISK. Best to call Hodgdon to be safe.

Hodgdon describes their powders and state superperformance powder has limited use for certain calibers and bullets so you may want to consider something else ... for 222 isnt in there data base ... as an alternative

min load fo any 22-250 load is more than max on just about/if not all 222 loads.contact some of the help lines and find out what they would reccomend.

The bottom line is companies do extensive testing and publish data for powders that meet the criteria that the are looking for. They my find that certain powders do not work as well as other. Your best approach would be to contact the support hot lines of the powder company.

The superformance powder we can buy is not the same stuff they use in the factory loaded cartridges. That is right from hodgdon. I was going to use that in my 223 because that factory ammo shoots epicly in my gun but after reading that it was a different formula then in the factory stuff I wont touch it. THere are many other great powders with data for loads out there.
