Trying out my new Whelen, *range report with pics*

Hello,

My 35 Whelen load gives me 2600 to 2650 fps(measured) from 60.0gr(0.5gr over max as per Alliant load info) of RL-15 behind a Hornady 250gr SP. That load in my Rem 7600 will shoot 3 rounds into .75". WLRM primers used for this load..

Some of my necked-up WW brass has 3 reloads on it with no ill effects and no indications of excess pressure on the brass for whatever that's worth.

Hell of a good Moose and Elk load.

Good Luck
John

Like JohnnyJ, so far all my 35 Whelen rifles digest Rel15 up to Alliant max and slightly beyond without a problem. But BcSteve's velocities seem very fast for the loads of ReL15 used. Backing off is wisdom when all the usual indicators say so. I would check my scale accuracy as was already mentioned.

So far I have never had a problem with Remington brass in my Whelen rifles misfiring. Always found it tough and works for me. WW works fine too.

My own experience with my Remington 700 BDL .35 Whelen is that I get 2590 fps with a 250 grain Hornady and 59.5 grains of R-15. Accuracy runs a consistent 3/4" (not just the occassional group). I love this rifle! Like Whelen B I've had nothing but good experiences with Remington brass with this rifle.

This, Brethren, is a classic example of every rifle being its own man, so to speak. Some get higher velocities than others, some less. :D

I agree with the misfires being die set-up related. Try, as was suggested, backing the sizing die out one full turn and see what happens.
