Trying to determine the age of my Savage 99

It's been awhile since I have been on the site, I hope everyone is doing well.

I have a Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage with a 23" barrel I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me what year it was made. The serial # is 6501xx.

Yep, I already had been there but was looking for something more accurate. I remember there being 2 - 3 real experts on these guns on this site, hopefully they will chime in.

More accurate dating on the Savages is done using the "lever boss code". Look at the muzzle facing edge of the lever boss (where the lever is attached to the receiver). You will find a small and sometimes indistinct oval stamped on the lever boss. Inside the oval there will be a stamp with one or two digits and a letter. The letter tells you the year of manufacture ... A-1949, B- 1950, C-1951 ... etc. to Z-1972 ... no "O", cause it looks like a "0", or so I've been told. The digits and numbers inside the oval are frequently very lightly stamped. You may have to look very carefully and use a magnifying glass. No, I am not one of the experts. Just happen to own a few 99s, and noticed your post.
 
I've tried distinguishing inside the LBC oval, but it is so worn away I cannot make it out. I will have to get a magnifying glass to get a better look.
