I am having a tough time finding the right sizes of caps for a couple of scopes. I am looking for the flip open covers for the front objective bezels for the following scopes:

Swarovski Z5 3-18X44
Swarovski 3-9X36

I have had no luck finding anything in the Edmonton area. None of the local shops, the Canadian Tires, or Cabelas have anything in stock. Also checked with Prophet River. As the sizes are so messed up I have no idea what size/number will fit these scopes to be able to order them online.

Drop me a PM if you can help.

Just measure the lens you want to cover and look at the butler creek sizing chart. That will get you the size/model you need. Then head to amazon. Depending on your measurement, you may land between two sizes. I opted to go up a size. One scope fit well, another I had to pad with some tape.

Tried that while in a local shop on another optic. None of the sizes actually meshed with the optics in hand. Had to go by trial and error.

Once again, I have tried using the size guide but the sizes did not mesh with the scopes. I stood at the counter of P&D with the guide in hand but the indicated sizes did not fit.

Did you bring your scopes in to try test fit the caps? If not we will be open to the public in a week or so and will try to find ones that work. I have found the chart from BC is only a guide and almost always use the actual scope to find ones that fit properly. Phil.

Hi Phil,

I was in just before the COVID lockdown. Had both rifles on the counter. Tried the caps indicated in the chart but they did not fit. The stock was also extremely limited so the trial and effort did not get very far.

I have gone thru 2 sets of Butler Caps on 2 different
scopes , they don't seem to take much use/abuse possibly
I am hard on equipment just suggesting you go to another brand.

I know your looking for butler Creek caps. Have a few sets on rifles with no issues. However bought a new Swarovski and they recommended Tenabraex caps seem a litttle more robust than the Butler creeks. Contacted the boys at Go Big Tactical, they were awesome to deal with. Sent them the scope mfg and particulars, they sent me the correct set and fit like a dream. Might be worth a try.

I tried the Tenebrex on my Z5 but they do not fit unless I were to opt for higher rings. I prefer to mount my optics as low as possible so the Tenebrex are out.

Butler Creek have not made good caps for a while now.... not sure when the quality took a dive but it's worth looking elsewhere.
I recently got some vortex defender caps that are nice and they fold flat on top of the scope when they are open, lifetime warranty.

They have a rather soft and flexible material where it wraps around the scope so they will stretch a bit more then Butler Creek caps, I might tape the rear eye peice cover as it does twist a bit if I'm not careful flipping up the cap but otherwise they are well made.

I'll echo this. I run the Vortex Defenders on all my scopes as they're way tougher than the Butler Creek, they fold flat and they aren't as expensive as the Tenebraex or Aadland covers.
