Evening everyone, I'm looking for some 20mm or larger rifled barrels even pieces 12" long or so.

I want to build some large bore flintlock pistols or rifle if long enough.

I was wondering if you guys new anywhere to get some or had any kicking around your basements getting all dusty.

We don't have many around here. I do quite a bit of gunsmithing but mostly antiques and that sort of thing. I figured someone on here must have something kicking around the basement.

see your local gun smith.

Ask your local gunsmith if he has an auto cannon barrel? Yeah, that's likely. Maybe see if you can get IRG or someone to export a torched barrel or something for you. I doubt there are to many real big bore barrels floating around in Canada.

They should know who in your province area might have it.

You ever seen a 20mm plus cannon barrel?
An M134 Vulcan Mini-gun is in 7.62NATO. An M61 is 20mm, but you will not find pieces of 'em in Canada.

I have some pieces of 105mm barrel, including the chamber. Your choice of either 105 howitzer (short) or 105 tank (longer). But you may need to bulk up your wrists a bit to use them for a pistol, and the recoil will most definitely be way beyond unpleasant.

Had a similar project in mind once and I figured thick wall DOM steel tubing would do. Much easier to find than cannon barrels, and not many Flintlocks were rifled. Having said that, there was a company in Calgary at one time doing maintenance work on the 20mm Phalanx system. Don't know what ever happened there.

Grizz

Over on the American long rifles forum there are a few guys building some pistols out of 200 vulcan barrels. Also a lot of flintlocks were rifled. Also so we're alot of earlier guns.

are the howitzer barrels complete? how heavy is the whole barrel?

No, but I can come up with more of the tank barrels. They will provide about 15 feet or so of nice rifled tube once the chamber and first foot of bad rifling are removed. I used a couple for projects and the metal turns nicely on a monster lathe.

Yes, I'm aware that 105mm is larger than 4". I was just throwing that in because it is how you size a lathe.

I can still easily turn over a 6 foot barrel on it.
