Hello. I just bought this bayonet and am wondering if the Russians marked the AVT-40 bayonets with an A. Below is a pic. I was thinking of marrying it with a 1944 Tula that has an A on the trigger assembly. Thanks:confused:

Nice find there. Unfortunately can't help with the markings. Wouldn't mind having a bayo for mine just for SnG but the cost will probably deter me from do so for a while,if I could even find one . Good luck on your quest for info.

I dont see why the Soviets would mark AVT Bayonets? Its not like they would need to be different then the SVT.

I know the cost seems like a lot since the rifles were just selling for $200 but I figure it adds value to the rifle it is married too. We have so many SVT's floating around Canada now and more I guess will be imported. So it makes sense to me that the rare supply of the bayonets will dry up very soon and the price will rise with the demand. Plus it's also very nice to have an untouched(non-refurbished)specimen that has obviously seen action on the Eastern Front.

I hear ya bud. That's why I love these old rifles(Red in particular but other milsurps as well)and the paraphernalia to go with them. Had an old Swiss bayo my grandmother gave me more than ten years ago and last year was given my great-grandfather's service rifle to go with it. Absolutely priceless to me.

Nice piece of kit you have there. Can you tell us where you found it and how much it cost, a lot of us are looking for the exact specimen. Thanks.

I purchased mine off of Ebay from a seller in the Czech Republic. The complete cost including shipping was about $220 Canadian. There are other similar ones on Ebay for sale from Bulgaria that are more expensive but I think worth it because eventually the supply will dry up and prices will climb. Just my 2 cents.

Here's a link to some bayo's on Ebay for sale:

Did you figure out if the "A" designates it as AVT? I would guess not since it's on the trigger group as well meaning you have a converted auto which doesn't seem too likely but that's just my opinion. Either way it's a great piece of Red history.

When I first bought the 44 Tula I posted pics up on another site and the "experts" suggested that the A could mean auto-vat. But with the SVT-40 we are still learning new things and correcting old beliefs. The thing that struck me was that usually you will see either a Tula, Izhevsk or Podolsk mark where the A is. Yes a mystery lol. Either it means Auto-vat or another manufacturer perhaps lol... Does anybody have an idea?

I've got an A and an oval with an arrow in it stamped in the same spot. Receiver has 1942 and a star and what looks like a box and triangle inside stamp. Little hard to make out.

Very nice bayonet

Let me disappoint you a little. "A" on your trigger group doesn't mean what you're thinking. I have that A on 2 Podolsk trigger groups an on 3 Tulas. I also have another reasons why I know I'm right, but I don't want to elaborate.
P.S. And I don't know the meaning of that "A". Yet :)

You don't want to elaborate? Do you have some tasty new info we don't know about yet lol... Even if the "A" doesn't relate my rifle and bayonet I think I'll still join them in Holy Matrimony.:adult:
