So I picked up a win model 70 in 223 from a friend who bought it as a project but lost interest in it. The guy he got it from tried to remove the bluing with my best guess a Dremel and a wheel. It came with a Boyd's walnut stock that is fairly decent but is a bit thick in places compared to the factory stocks. May do a little bit of thinning and relieve the ejection port area of the stock like a factory one if I get ambitious. I've started with a file and India stone removing the damage from the Dremel but this will take some time.IMG_20230906_164453.jpgIMG_20230906_164458.jpgIMG_20230907_143446.jpgIMG_20230907_143450.jpg

Ugly, but redeemable. Draw file it with a chalked and new, sharp and high quality file (nothing from Canadian Tire), then wet sand up to 1500 if you want a gloss blue. You can draw file a barrel / round work too, I contoured a barrel once draw filing, just keep rotating it evenly.

For the barrel, may want to start with just 600 grit wet sanding if there’s no gouges and see how it looks.

That would be one way. Because I have a lathe, I would be inclined to spin the barrel on it against increasingly fine grades of abrasive paper.
As a matter of fact, I have a Ross barrel that needs to be polished and reblued. It must have picked up some rust, so bubba had a go at it with sandpaper. The rest of the metal parts are excellent. With the barrel polished and hot water blued it will be a very attractive 1910R sporting rifle.

The filing and stoning is complete. This one will be getting cerakote elite midnight applied to it. I will knock the barrel off chuck it in the lathe go to town on it and recrown while I'm at it.

Length wise polishing with 220 grit wet/dry paper will do a better job rather than spinning it... you have to remove those marks that are there... then move to 320 grit...
