TT-33 in any pistol competition?

Hi Folks,

Out of curiosity why it the TT33/ 7.62x25 not allowed in any pistol competitions?

Doesn’t it make the minimum power levels?

News to me! Some indoor clubs don't allow hi-vel pistol especially steel-jacketed with steel berms. Clubs without range dividers don't like hi-speed ejected cases from a 7.62X25. Aside from that, should be allowed for outdoor Bullseye and PPC. Not sure about IPSC or IDPA.

One could be holstered half cocked or with an empty chamber. No idea if IPSC or IDPA would accept these options.
Full length firing pin, so cannot be safely carried with hammer down on a loaded chamber.
If no hot holster is involved, there shouldn't be any issue.

Steel cored bullets would not be welcome on indoor ranges with steel backstops.
Outdoor range with earthen backstops, shouldn't make any difference.
 
Usually it's because the ammo is steel core and VERY destructive to steel targets. AFAIK It doesn't qualify for calibre restrictions for IDPA as they're not at least 9mm, and not small enough for BUG. Could be wrong on that as I'm no expert.
 
IPSC minimum calibre is 9mm.

That said, I have used a TT33 in CQB competition (sort of a theme match - paired with a SKS)...not the best gun for serious competition but lots of fun.

Most competitions need a minimum calibre of 9mm. I’ve always been of the opinion that there should be an exception for 7.62x25 because you’re not really gaining anything there. But then again most guns that shoot that calibre aren’t exactly ideal for competition anyways.
 
That’s a good point about steel cores ammo being hard on targets, I’ll buy that one and it would be hard to check since most would be running surplus.

Also a great call on safeties, since the TT33 wasn’t hot on them and the only one I can think of that is not TT based would be the Norc P762.
 
Our PPC club in Windsor ON allows the TT-33 (with 7.62x25 "range safe" (non-steel core)) ammo to be used. 2-gun and 3-gun matches I have been to allow it (if shooting paper targets then steel core allowed). Since these matches are slightly less formal than IDPA/IPSC, the RO will allow things like starting with empty chamber since there is no safety.

Last 3-gun match I was at (outdoor) one guy used an SVT-40 and his TT-33 (don't recall his shotgun).

I am currently using a Norinco TT-33 clone in 9mm (with the manual safety) as my pistol in 3-gun matches. Have the holster, 5 magazines, etc. Fun gun to shoot. I am planning on using my TT-33 with 7.62x25 for PPC once the indoor league starts up again (mainly because I want my brass back and the outdoor ranges for 2-gun and 3-gun don't really let me keep my brass). I've reloaded a few hundred range safe rounds using Campro projectiles and AA#7.

Someone’s bitter, you afraid someone with a TT-33 will outshoot you?

7.62x25 is a much snappier round than 9mm is, and with some of the loadings I have seen some people with they might as well be shooting .22s for the power level.

I’d probably shoot my NP762 Eugene, since it shoots very flat. Don’t have a cow man. And there are more sports than just IPSC and IDPA.
