Hello all,

I have just bought an additional 2 TT-33 magazines for my pistol and only one can drop freely. They both visually look the same and rough measuring would indicate they are the same. When the mag release is pressed it does not move, I need to get a fingernail in there to pry it 1/4" then it will drop out. I took them apart and determined that it is the main frame of the magazines that is causing the issue. I did notice that the indicating holes were not in the same place but I did not think this would have any bearing on Its ability to drop freely.

Is this normal? Do some magazines just not drop freely?

Should I be concerned about the mechanics of my pistol?

Has anyone else had this issue? And if so how did you fix it?

Thanks,
M

I have 5 mags for mine, only 1 drops free. The other 4 all get hung up at some point, 1 rubs the left side of the trigger bow, another the right side. The other 2 drag on the frame. I don't know that it's normal but it certainly isn't uncommon. I've found that the more I use them the better they are getting.

Just keep shooting it, they'll free up.

Most European pistols where never designed to have the mags drop free. They quite correctly figured out long ago that most gunfights are over before you get thru half a mag, and that a pistol without a mag is a poor single shot. One of the purposes of heel releases on mags was to force you to handle the mag, rather then drop and loose it. Plus, with practice, they're 95% as fast, just need a different drill. If you play around with the mag, you'll be able to make it drop free. Some do, some don't...it wasn't a big criteria for the design.

I had to sand off a little bit of the back side of the plastic grip panels on my 1949 Russian.
Try dropping the mags out with the panels removed to diagnose if they are rubbing on the magazine.
if so its a fast easy fix.
Still don't expect them to come dropping out real easy.

Cookie.

The matching serial # mags that came with my Polish Tok are a P.I.T.A. to get out,
but aftermarket mags I got from Corwin Arms (CGN sponsor) drop out without a fuss.
Go figure. Thinner gauge metal?
