Welcome to CGN. You must have clicked the wrong forum, you want to post in the one just above this, no worries it happens especially to some of us old farts when the geezer goggles slip. :). Have a good one.

Great gun for the money, but I have 2 issues with it, 3 if you count having to clean after surplus.

1- The trigger on mine is terrible. Not good for a newb IMHO.

2 - The recoil is substantial and the backstrap has sharp edges which really give your palm a beating between your thumb and trigger finger. 80 rounds is enough for me in a trip. ;)

3 - Cleaning after every trip. Not hard at all but still..........

Other than that it is a solid pistol and mine is in amazing shape. Also absolutely reliable although some report different. Cheap ammo and a cheap gun FTW!

They are very inexpensive but quite crude.
The lack of safety for example, and the sights are small and trigger stiff.
Very simple to disassemble, and very robust.
I paid 400$ for mine with 2280rds of 1950s czech ammo.A 1947 Russian I assume it was refurb'd but looked unused to me, although one of the grips was obviously from another used one.
Quite the deal, I plan to burn through the ammo this year and if theres no more cheap stuff around, sell the gun.

Buy a russian one that was made after the war 46 and later they have the best machining

This is good advice. My first Tokarev was a Russian built 1945. It took a great deal of work to make it run properly. Not fun.

Second Tokarev is a Russian built 1952. Night and day difference. The later models have the fine serrations on the slide. Much better machine work, tighter tolerances. 300 rounds through it so far and zero problems. Much more fun :)

Try to find some grips that fit your hands. They help a great deal. I found the factory grips to be very uncomfortable.

If at all possible try one first before you buy so you can see what it is like. There are good reasons for starting with something milder.

I enjoy my TT-33 a great deal. It has a nice kick to it and the report is very loud, so loud you can feel it in your chest as it goes off. For a couple hundred dollars you can't go wrong. There has been a supply issue for the ammo in the past so I suggest loading up on it now that everyone has some. I have shot hundreds of rounds and haven't had any feeding issues yet. :dancingbanana:

One of the sponsor's Trade Ex Canada has good deals on TT33's with ammo. I bought a TT33 and a crate of 7.62x25mm at Christmas. h ttp://www.shop.tradeexcanada.com/produits/96

I bought mine along with 2280 rounds from tradeex. I have shot 80 rounds through it with no issues. The trigger is by far the worst I have ever shot but hey it's not a target tunics a fun gun.

My 1945 Tokarev has about 1500 rounds through it now. Of the 5 pistols I own it is the one I am most accurate with. The trigger is very nice. I polished the trigger return spring as per Teapot's suggestion and that's about it. My 1952 Tokarev hasn't received this treatment yet and its trigger is still stiff and gritty.

fun pistol , shoots like a .357 . fast round shoots thru anything (almost) cheap ammo . they where so cheap to buy i got two! the looks we get at the range when we go akimbo pistols is pricless :p story goes that they made the round that fast so the russian soldiers did not have to lead targets, just point and fire.

I have a Ruskie and a Norinco M54, same gun, same caliber. The Norc shoots better.

I smooth the triggers with some lapping compound gobbed onto the sear and 100 dry fires. Then some grease.

Good plinkers and blasters. Some surplus ammo is steel core bullets. Hard on steel backstops.

Great pistol for the price. Mines a Russian 1945, lots of fun. Solid pistol and good kick with 7.62x25. Only issue I have is when the brass ejects straight back into my face, but hey that's what saftey glasses are for!!
