So a few weeks ago I was asking in a thread regarding surplus 7.62x25 ammo whether the czech stuff was too hot for the TT-33. No one answered. Well, it isn't tooooo hot but it's pretty close. I had two jams in 10 minutes of shooting, one requiring the disassembly of the pistol, and the sparks and fire out the front of the barrel were really entertaining. Still, it shot pretty straight and I don't think it was more than the gun could handle. Apparently others at the Poco range with TT-33s have had similar problems with the surplus ammo.

Right. If you don't hold the gun strongly enough, your elbow, arm, etc, will absorb too much recoil and momentum, and the firearm won't cycle properly.

Thanks for the serious replies but I was just playing a bit with the words. :)

The first jam was caused by a faulty magazine, it seems to get stuck when empty and can't be removed except to stick something in to depress the follower and eject. The second wasn't a stove-pipe, the round fired and the case jammed in the breech, I think the steel case and the semi-rapid fire of hot ammo contributed to it. Still, none of that, nor a limp-wristed firing style could explain the flames coming out of the muzzle and the sparks flying downrange. And I can't be blamed either as my wife has me on a very strict anti-gas diet :)

Steel-jacketed projectile + steel barrel = lots of sparks and a big grin

I love shooting the Tok as it's getting near dusk. Looks like a basketball is coming out the end of the pistol!

I have similar problems and i think it is because of ammunition - it is lacquered steel. After 40 rounds in a row the barrel getting so hot
that lacquer is starting melting/burning and case is gluing and jamming in a chamber. It sticks very well, you need to disassemble and use rod to push it out. I don't know how many rounds i put through but i have some other issues:
sometimes a slamfire of 2-3 rounds and last problem - it didn't stays cocked after each shot. I read some Russian book recently and author is saying that TT has less that 1000 rounds of "no-problem working" resource.

You mean to say that after 1000rds problems start surfacing? Wasn't sure how to read that.

What about that fellow on CGN that blew off something like 3000rds with his TT33 a few years ago? He said worked very well and minimal problems. He was doing a torture test of sorts. I can't recall what ammo he used though. Thought it was the surplus stuff from Marstar - the 1950's production crates.

That's awfully personal and I'm not at all sure what that has to do with my gun jamming. Unless "gun jamming" has an alternate meaning I'm unaware of, and I don't even want to touch "limp wristing".

hahaah, LOL....sigh. I love being a shooter, so many opportunities to divert conversations down 'other' paths...

Even with the problems I think the Marstar ammo is still a good deal. 13cents a round is pretty good and a little jamming and stuff just makes the shooting more interesting. Sure, the guy next to me shooting the baby eagle felt sorry for me (and my wife) but all in all we still had a blast. I especially like the one shot my wife took where what I can only think was unburnt powder flew out the barrel about 100 yards downrange where it bounced off the side burm across about 4 lanes of targets. That was cool.
