TT33 Mags Connected?

Hey all,
My TT33 came today and I was wondering if there was any reason the mags are connected with a string? Personally I think it was just to keep the magazines together with the gun they matched. Is that true or am I just wrong? It is kind of a pain to shoot with the mags connected and the extra won't reach the mag holder in the holster. Were they used that way by soldiers? Is it a shame if I separate them? Thanks for your help,

It's for the same reason mittens have strings between them.;)

Seriously, I'm sure it's just for packing and shipping purposes.

I think you're correct. Proper function of the Tokarov is very mag dependent.

Ya I went ahead and removed the stupid string. It should be much better to shoot now. :) It was kinda nice to never loose that other mag, it was always just right below the gun. Thanks again guys,
