I'm faced with a bit of a dilemma: The TT33 I own apparently belongs to the Mosin-Nagant school of accuracy. At 10 yards the POA and the POI can differ considerably.

I know its the pistol and not the shooter because I shoot quite well with other handguns.

So my question is: How hard is it to obtain a "new" barrel for TT33s that isn't shot out, or is it even worth hunting down a replacement barrel?

Are you shooting the super hot corrosive surplus stuff?

It's all I tried in mine. Fun to shoot, but hard to hit anything.

Ammo, trigger and sights may be part of the problem.

I have a TT33 that seems loose all over. When I grasp he grip tightly and use my finger in the muzzle to move the barrel it shifts quite a bit. I haven't shot it to verify if it's going to be accurate or not yet but I don't expect it will shoot very well with that much play. My Zastava M57 on the other hand is tight. No play side to side or up and down. I'll still have to try them both out at the range to see how they do.

I'm thinking I may try to JB weld bed the slide where the barrel locks in to tighten it up.

Are all the mil surp Russian TT33's loose like mine? I have another one coming in the mail so I guess I'll find out.

How's your TT33's action?

If it was me I'd just buy another one, preferably a post war Russian. My 52 or 53 is mint and shoots pretty accurately if I do what I'm supposed to, tradex used to have complete parts sets that were almost the price of another tt. So find a shooter and you'll already have a parts backup and spare mags.

Tradex has barrels listed at $95.00, but who knows if you'll get a better condition one.

I think TT33's are a lot like sks's where you have to pick and choose when you buy them. There are nice guns out there but there is quite a bit of junk out there too. Mine is pretty tight but the barrel looks almost like a smooth bore. Strangely it still groups well with surplus ammo. Either way these sure are fun to shoot. :)

I got a new barrel from SKSman.com, My TT still shot like chit with a new barrel. So I bought a 2nd TT and that one was even worse.

So I sold all that crap and moved on with my life...

Buy an unissued Pole and you may stand a chance of accuracy. I'm convinced all the Russky ones are off from bashing in the heads of good proletariat comrades who didn't feel like sacrificing themselves for the Motherland.

Best thing you can do is benchrest the gun on a steady surface.
I do this whenever im not sure if its me or the pistol.

If your groups are still all over the board, sell that sucka.

Huh, my TT-33's have always shot pretty decent for me. Not as accurate as I can do with my revolvers or some of my semis, but I could always keep the holes in the paper reasonably close together. I know that Trade-ex had parts kits available, not sure if you could get just the barrel though, and I haven't checked lately to see if the parts are still in stock. I do remember that the parts kits were almost the price of the gun (since they came with everything except the frame)

M 1945 model shoots well with the surplus ammo but it really likes a cast lead bullet over 5 gr of Unique. The accuracy does not compare to my target guns but still adequate (about 3" at25 yards).
