tt33

I got mine from Trade Ex on Friday- my second handgun, first being a CZ-75. Did only a cursory cleaning when I got it home from UPS so I could still make it to the range before closing.

First shot made the mag fall out- it rattled out onto the range, how embarassing. This was a recurring problem with one of the two mags the gun came with so I had a lot of trouble adopting a proper shooting stance without teacupping the gun.

Put about 100 rounds through it and I've decided that if you can shoot a TT-33 accurately, you can shoot anything accurately. To me, it's a lot like an SKS- there are a lot of factors contributing to poor accuracy: surplus ammo, poor trigger, some poor ergonomics. Work on the trigger a bit, and use new manufacture ammo and you'd probably have a really really nice handgun for the price. On the groups I really, really concentrated on, I was getting groupings only a littler worse than my CZ-75.

Took it home and broke it down to the basics. Gave it a bath in boiling water to get the cosmo off, and filed the slots on the magazines out a bit to make sure they would fully engage the catch.

I'm 100% of the opinion that you should buy things because they appeal to you, not because other people say you should want them. If you want a TT-33 because it has historical value, or because it's just plain loud and ugly, or because you want to play garage gunsmith, absolutely go for it. If you're just looking for a cheap handgun solely to learn some proper marksmanship, though, you're probably going to be better off with a .22lr- it's going to get you to your destination faster.

Polish the flat springs in the hammer group and you'll feel the trigger is mush lighter and therefore accuracy will increase.

I will polish the chamber and polish the springs as you suggest. Thank you very much for the guidance. New springs are on the way and I ordered a new grip for it as well. I think it will run very nicely soon.

I came across this series of good photos explaining how the round is tipped out by a notch in the feed lips opposite the extractor.

I'm not sure what the policy is for linking to other boards is here so if this isn't appropriate please remove it.

I think you summed that up nicely.

i am still excited to get on of these i think it will be fun to tinker with but it will have to wait now but i have the gsg now to practice to shoot on and learn more about that side of things

woot pistols
cheers

Thanks for the link to the extraction/ejection in a TT-30/TT-33 pistol.
I hadn't given it much thought but now I know how it happens.:)

Well put. A TT-33 is not the best pistol to learn to shoot with, but
the low price, fun factor, and parts availability make it a great choice
to have anyway for tinkering, etc.

i bought a chineese taco in 9mm, machining was terrible, tokegypt grip didnt fit my hands, and the thing shot so low, with the target at 25 ft, 4ft off the ground the round would hit 6 to 8 ft short of the target!
one of my favorite guns!
i filed and polished the slide, made my own grips, and have been working the barrel link seating, getting the thing to shoot about a foot low now(at 25 ft)
i have gotten much enjoyment out of tinkering with this gun, and many hours to go no doubt to get my silk purse from this sows ear!
i am sure this pistol was worse than most, but i would hesitate to suggest it for a first time buyer or someone who isnt mechanically inclined.
bought a rusky in 7.62 thru a supporting dealer , it is stamped 1948, as well as other butchering marks, has rust pitting on the frame in a couple spots, but has a better finish than my chineese taco did! i like the original grips(they fit my hand nicer!) happy with my purchace so far! i think i will leave this one stock..apearance wise, looks cool:)
the sporting goods store just called, amo is in! will shoot it and follow up! we will see how this one shoots!

Did you learn your lesson? Don't buy Chinese guns!!! :p

true, i originally was just sayin the norc taco was the exception to my other norc products, which were deadly accurate out of the box
even so i have had much enjoynent "playing" with it, i am a multi ticketed tradesman not a leadite, true my 1911's arnt colts, but with a little tlc and polishing they run very smooth...and at a 1/4 to 1/2 the price which means i can afford differant models
as for higher quality guns, i own browning , sig, s&w, cz, savage,+++ yes there is a differance, but i sure wouldnt own the diversity that i do with out some lower priced projects in my gun room
i apoligize for my rude language, but i do get tired of people poo, pooing anything chineese, yes they make cheap crap for wallyworld,(cause we ask them to) but norinco also makes missle defence systems, when i was a kid jap scrap was a term used for anything built in japan, now they are known for their quality. hmm the only country that has their own space station is.....

No problem...in my mind I'd rather pay the extra for a warrenty, nicer finish, nicer trigger and so on then paying for a meh Norc. I feel like if I got a norc I'd be wishing after the fact then I just saved up a little more and got something "better".

the Tokarev t33 is a neat gun and you cant beat the price point for the gun and for the surplus ammo. question is should i buy one? i have been looking for a pistol for a while and stumbled across this. the prices really attracted me. so should I?

let me know your opinions

cheers
i dont know about you, but i have spent more on a piss-up than the price of the gun and ammo.
if you shoot it and dont like it you will at least have something better than a hangover!

to each there own, we are all shooters here who like things that go BANG! i wont jump on your post, cause imho you spent too much, and us sub $200 tok and norc lovers would appreciate you not dissin us! :)

I own a TT33 for an el cheapo gun and...just a Russian one. I also want to get a Nagant revolver and an enfield tanker as well!!!
