I have owned many 22 rifles; single shot, tube and magazine fed bolt actions and semiautomatics.

I generally find that tube fed rifles are much more reliable with respect to feeding than magazine fed rifles.

What is everyone else's experience ?

I've only owned a few .22's so don't know if one is more reliable than the other but I prefer tube mag rifles and I've never had any issues with them feeding.
I also find the lower profile of the tubes are an advantage to carry and they rest better on shooting bags...again just my opinion.

Have had guns with tubes but not recently. If you're shooting at a range and cease-fire is called, the tube would have to be emptied in order to make the gun safe. Mag is easier in that respect. I remember being able to shoot a lot of 22 shorts before reloading with the old Cooey bolt repeater.

Tube mags hold more ready ammo, and never get lost. But to each thier own, cease fire at our range meant open bolt, no ammo in chamber and stepping away from the shooting bench. Nothing touched until resume fire was called.

Tube mags are subject to problems if the rifle has suffered from rough handling, they can be damaged by denting.m They are also a pain in the butt to empty if required in the field or as the previous poster noted, if a cease fire is called.

For bench shooting I prefer the box mag as they are easy to drop from the gun to reload with a minimum movement of the rifle.

If there's a cease-fire on the range I rack the bolt open(to eject the chambered round) remove the tube stick(?) and tilt the rifle forward...tube empty.
Unloading a black powder....now that would seem to be a pain in the butt.
