Hi, I'm a long time owner and shooter of a standard Ruger 10/22 paid $150 around 35 years ago and a Ruger SR22 rifle paid $600 around 5 years ago.
I've looking for a 22lr "Ultimate Compact Rifle" and was wondering if I should get:
1) a short 12.5" TUFF-22
2) some kind of Ruger 10/22 takedown target
3) some kind of Ruger 10/22 target including the Custom shop competition model

I only care about accurate rifle and my 35 years old Ruger 10/22 still impressive but I've very attracted by the newer offerings.

I have a TUFF 22 and would certainly recommend it. I have no experience with the high end Ruger target models though. The TUFF 22 blows a standard Ruger 10/22 away. Very accurate, very precise machining, and made of excellence materials that feel like they'll last forever.

Yea Dlask TUF-22 is actually a real rifle, the fit and finish on the rugers is pretty bad.
If you have to ask get the tuf22 - you will be happy with it.

I've built couple Dlask 10/22s in the last couple years, start from DAS22 to TUF22 now. Their products are top notch. You won't be disapointed to have any of Dlask products. Now I only hope they can have TUF22 takedown receivers in the near future. If they do, I will jump on it without any doubts.

Take a look at greybirch. Light and compact shooter.
As for dlask, I have 2 high end builds from them, they are absolute tac drivers, both out shoot my Volquartsen carbon fibre. One is 100% dlask in a Boyd’s stock, the other Kidd, dlask, mdt. You won’t be disappointed.

I am kind of curious about the new ruger competition, supposed to be the gun everyone has been building for 20 years. Comparing a stock 10/22 to a dlask is like a Mercedes to a chevette. There is a reason the ruger is 400 and a completed dlask is what 1100?

I own all of those except the Ruger 10/22 target. The TUF-22 receivers are second to none and I love the Dlask shorty barrels I have an 8” SS dimpled bull barrel on the wife’s pink ruger and a 9” carbon fibre medium profile on my take down. Two of these guns have TUF-22 receivers which will also take the legal TUF-22 hi cap 25 round mags. The takedown is cool but in reality if you run this short of a barrel you aren’t shaving off nearly as much overall length as with the factory length barrel. I hope Dlask starts making a TUF-22 takedown receiver soon.

Target grade would encompass the Dlask offerings, but I would question the 'takedown' style. Careful design and lockup would seem to be adequate, but there is no doubt a good reason why you don't see them in competitions.

I own a Dlask and am very pleased with it, although I find the bull barrel a bit on the heavy side for field use. My 'takedown' rifle is a Browning SA and for field hunting it is great with a red dot and kept to 70m or so.

Of course it mostly depends on just what your needs are and the projected use of the rifle. I will make my recommendation of the Dlask builds categorically.

Super interesting!
What do you recommend as 1) barrel, 2) trigger stock and 3) stock?
I almost bought a Tikka T1x MTR but suddenly realized that a Gucci-ed 10/22 would be 10 time more fun ;)

Barrel - what exactly are you looking for? Short? Light weight? Target?
Trigger - the ruger BX trigger packs are the best trigger pack for the $ in my opinion I have them in all of my 10/22’s

Stock - really depends on personal preference and what you are going for if you are getting Dlask to build you a gun get the Magpul hunter with a longer cheek rest and skip the hogue

I purchased a new 10/22 Target Tactical last month. The 16" hammer forged barrel punches ragged holes at 50 right from the start. Good grouping at 100 and 200 yards. Just feed it good ammo and itll do the job. That said, the reciever has a ton of overspray from its coating on the bolt running surfaces. Making the action a little gritty. The finish on the barrel has begun to rub off as well under light use. The trigger on this model is supposed to be good. Better then standard. It feels like a solid 4lbs or more. Not great, even after I polished it. The volquartsen hammer/sear in my pencil barrel 10/22 puts it to shame. Have a Kidd stage 1 trigger to go in it. Should bring the group size down a hair.

I will eventually upgrade to a Grey Birch/Dlask reciever and bolt but believe me the stock target model is no slouch. Just dropped it in a KRG Bravo stock. Half the fun is building the version you want isnt it?

Id like to try the Ruger 10/22 competition model. It checks all the boxes for me.

Keep an eye on the EE. Theres a sweet DAR 22 with a McGowan barrel, timney trigger and boyds stock on there right now that has all the right parts for a great price. If that doesnt do it for you then keep scrolling or wait a day. Theres been no less then 10 target models/dlask builds pop up there this week.
