Tula Ammo

No clue about 7.62x39, but I got 500 rounds of 5.56 from them and it came in boxes stacked in a block sealed in plastic inside cardboard.

Can anybody chime in with their experiences with Tula Ammo? Their website seems a bit shoddy and it's not clear where they were shipping from or which carrier they use.

^ This. I got some 9mm and 223 and it came like that. Some of the boxes were crunched.

I ordered 500 rounds of 62 gr 223 HP they shipped it using Canpar. I've shot around 200 of it so far it all fed fired and ejected with no issues from my Tavor. If/when they get in some 75gr 223 I will buy some of that.

It's retail packaged ammo, not Cold War surplus, so there are no spam-cans involved at all. Cold War ammo was stored in sealed metal cans so it was weather-proof and could be transported and stored anywhere in preparation for World War 3. Regular retail ammo would never be packaged that way as it's far too costly.

I've ordered from them before, arrived via CANPAR, had updates for order confirmation and shipping notification. They were fast and the site worked flawlessly for me. I think I had the ammo at my door in 2-3 days; I forget exactly. I was hesitant at first because the site does look kind of dodgy but I had no issues whatsoever. I haven't ordered from them again since I shoot 90-95% handloads and the Tula stuff didn't shoot that well in any of my rifles.

I tried their:
.223 55gr FMJ
.223 55gr HP
.223 62gr HP
.308 150gr FMJ
7.62x39 124gr FMJ
7.62x39 124gr SP

The 7.62x39 shot pretty much the same as my Czech surplus but is non-corrosive. The price difference kept me from ordering again while the surplus is still readily available.

I don't remember what the return address was. I think Southern Ontario somewhere?

I had seen some on youtube that came in a spam can, but that was in the US was hoping it was the same here. Oh well. There 7.62 is a lot more expensive than surplus anyways, hell its even way more expensive than the Norinco Canada ammo carries.

Thanks all

Well I'll be damned. Guess I was wrong.

Sorry about that; I should have said I've never seen any instead of declaring that it doesn't exist. I try to avoid jumping to conclusions and when I do, I end up dead wrong.
Also found pics of 223, 45ACP, and others in spam cans marked in English. I've never seen any of that in Canada before. All the bulk Tula, Wolf, and other Russian brands I've seen before are packed in cardboard boxes.

No worries. It would be cool to have it in a can though. I wouldn't mind so much paying a little extra to have it stored in a can just for long term storage purposes. I know about surplus ammo. I have some Romanian that I purchased here locally, but its corrosive and was canned up and crated god knows when.

My experience with Tula has been good. I've ordered 55g and 62g .223 and had no problems. Fast shipping via Canpar. I believe they ship from somewhere north of the GTA. The 55g that I've used has been fine. The site seems a little short of goods these days. I wonder if it has to do with embargoed goods.

I think it is because of some rule about French labelling that makes us get it in boxes but not sure, the new manufacture in spam cans would be awesome, especially if they were vacuum packed!

What kind of accuracy are you getting with the .223 Tula? Is it closer to the Norinco stuff or the American Eagle ammo?

I had 1K of 9mm and 1K of 45 ACP and love it. The 45 slugs, even though they were copper jacketed or copper plated were very soft.
I wish I had a bunch more; it's impossible to get now. I heard it was because of the trade restrictions vis-a-vis Putin and the Ukrain.

I haven't had the time to do more than plink a few boxes of 55g. Using a Sig 400 and an Aimpoint at 100 yards I go all (or at least a whole lot) on target. With 1:7 twist, I think the 62g should be better.

I've never shot Norinco or AE but in my Savage Axis in 223 the Tula shoot around 2" at 100yds. One of them, don't remember which, shot about a 6" group. The same rifle with handloads (the only other ammo I shoot in it) can shoot 1" with 55gr soft points and 3/4" with 69gr SMK's. They also shot 8-10" or so left of my normal handloads which I found kind of odd. Of course that is likely a quirk of my rifle specifically.

The Tula I tried were 55gr FMJ, 55gr HP, and 62gr HP.

Some guys have shot some pretty good groups with them (around 1" at 100yds?) so maybe my rifle just doesn't agree with them.
