Hi, i just got a Tula T03-17 .22 from my grandfather, it is missing a magazine and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find one or get ahold of one? At least I believe it is a Tula, There is no markings on it, only a t03-17 which I then googled and it came up as Tula. I know nothing of this gun so if anyone has any information on it too that would be great. Thanks for your help.

I got one from my uncle this year as well....no mag.
I made a Mossberg 802 plinkster magazine (20-24$) fit with little modification.
1st I filed off a small bump near the top of the mag(used a dremel).
2nd I pushed the mag in with the bolt closed and marked the back where the magazine latch would catch
3rd rough up the back of the mag and put a small blob of jbweld to form a bump for the magazine latch to catch
4th some final shaping of the blob with a file or sandpaper should leave you with a functioning magazine

Good luck

Anybody ever heard or seen these before?

There have been earlier threads on these little, roughly finished but reliable and accurate Soviet-era plinksters. As to the magazines, good luck finding a reasonably priced spare here in North America. Jager's notes he made a Mossberg magazine fit, but step 4 ends with "...should leave you with a functioning magazine." Jager: did it actually work for you in the end?

Here's a schematic for your viewing pleasure:

Yes my plinkster conversion is working. I haven't shot that many rounds through it, but so far so good. My only concern is the jbweld coming off but from what I've read, the stuff is supposed to be really good. I was able to get an original 5 round magazine that is made from some type of plastic (a dark burgundy brown that lets light through). I find the Mossberg magazine actually fits better because it doesn't bind like the plastic one.
For more info on the rifle try looking up TOZ 17 rather than TO3 17.......I was told the 3 is a Russian Z.

I still have my original TOZ-17 magazines; They are stamped steel, with rifle serial number crudely engraved on the side. The rifle is equally crudely made, but simple, reliable, and quite accurate. Info about these rifles is available on the net, and original magazines are also available from Europe - but they are priced very dearly. To the OP - This conversion idea may be worth a try.
