I always thought this was a no no but I have a wack of 9mm loaded with Unique and 125 grain LRN and I am getting old and lazy . Any thoughts or experience with this procedure.

I've done it, put a batch of 50, 45acp in to see if they would come out cleaner. They didn't, no issues, they were in for 3 hrs. Won't do it again, did nothing

I would never tumble live ammo. Even one little bit of of grit that attaches itself to the case or bullet scratches barrels, dies upon reloading & is basically a wothless shortcut.

Benchrest shooters would cringe.

Wipe it off then... This is a non-issue. How dirty is your media that it isn't coming out cleaner than it is going in?

9mm Pistol ammo is not exactly bench rest ammo. Ground walnut shell is not nearly as hard as steel or sand/dirt. So, no worries tumble away.

I have tumbled live ammo in the past and I have never had an issue- with that being said I read an article not too long ago and it said vibratory tumblers when tumbling loaded ammo can over time break down the individual kernels of powder or flakes or ball or whatever you are using. In extreme cases it was stated that this may change the burn characteristics of the given propellant. It was mentioned that in extreme cases could cause excessive pressure. Again I have never experienced this. I’m sure an hour of tumbling is fine. I wouldn’t leave them in there for the day while you’re at work.
