How often should a person renew the media for a tumbler,does it wear out or do you just add more as you lose it. I have corn cob media plus I add a little liquid polish to each batch and it seems to work ok but takes awhile. Also does walnut shell work better than corn cob. Thanks in advance for your help
 
I use oil field fine walnut with Lyman compound. There comes a point when it starts taking way too long, then I change it out. At under 30 bucks for a fifty pound bag, i inevitably wonder why I waited some long.
 
Corn cob media works great. You can visibly notice when it is worn out. A simple system is to save some new, unused corn cob in a bin or some type. As your system cleans more brass, you will see it become grungy. Compare....
Here's what I do: my Dillon FL2000 cleans huge quantities of dirty brass. About 950-1100 pieces per tumble depending on caliber. After about 4 complete uses, the corn cob is junk. Replace.
I am using NuFinish car polish in the orange plastic bottle as a brass polisher.
 
I never replaced my corn cob and walnut media when I used to use it. You can just throw it in a 6 gallon bucket, water + dish soap. Stir it for a while and let it sit for 15 mins. Drain then lay out on a towel to dry.
