My tumbling media is starting to not do a very good job of cleaning up the brass anymore. It will always leave the necks dirty but usually cleans up the rest of the case. I want to try using some Nu finish car polish in the media , but am wondering how much I should add into the media. I have it as a mix of 2/3 corn cob and 1/3 walnutshells.
Thanks

Bearcat,
Lyman media revitalizer works pretty good for bringing the media back, but I use what I think is a better solution.
Walnut shell is used in the oilfield in many different grinds. I can buy fifty pound bags for $28.00. Fine doesn't clog flashholes. There are lots of abrasives that will work, Go-jo non-petroleum (Citrus) hand-cleaner with Pumice works about as good as anything else, and when the walnut gets dirty I throw it out. That's a lot easier to do when you have a whole dollar invested.

Where, by chance can one pick this up?

Look in your Yellow Pages under "abrasives", "Industrial abrasives" or "sandblasting".

There's an outfit here in Edmonton called "Manus Abrasives" that carries the stuff.

I know LOTS of oilfield people who can probably get me some walnut shells for nuthing when ever I want some .I will have top make a few calls tonite and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the heads up

Belt-fed,
I get it in Lloyd at an oilfield mud supply place called H.L. Powell if I remember the name correctly. Finding walnut shell in Calgary should be real easy. It is used for lost circulation material in drilling mud, but sandblasters use this stuff too. A search for drilling mud suppliers or sand blasters in Calgary should get you going. The hardest part is explaining that you don't want a semi load of the stuff, chances are that nobody ever asked for just one bag before.:D

Just a follow up: Went to 'Consolidated Compressor' here in Calgary. Picked up 3 50lb bags for $23 and change each. This walnut media is originally intended to operate through a sand blaster, and as such is nearly the exact same size as what you would find in Wholesale or any such store that sold tumbling media.
Thanks again guys for the tip, saved me a ton of cash!
