Tumbling media

Pet store Lizard Litter is less expensive than your gun store media (same ####) and the 50lb bags from blasting supply or princess auto is even cheaper yet. You want a 12/20 if buying by the 50lb bag.
 
Sand would be great!

If you like a deep brass/matte finish on your brass and want to risk getting it into your dies and/or firearms.....;)

Like others have said, walnut from the sandblasting suppliers.:)

I just tried some fine crushed glass media (brainstorm from when i used to do media blasting) and tumbled 800 cases in my lyman 2500.

In 10 minutes, very very dirty old range brass was shiny new again!

I am thinking this stuff might be the ticket. 12.00 for 50 lbs, but one downside, is the glass dusting. Use a mask when tumbling out the media.

But the neat thing is, the glass does not stick, the insides of the cases are clean as a whistle, and the tumbler is very quiet when using this media. The brass is so smooth as to be considered 'slippery'.

Another thing i just realized, the media can be washed clean and re used over and over again since it's only a vibratory cleaner and not done under pressure.

Any comments?
 
I use walnut shell media, bought at pet store, $21 for 11 dry quarts. Works well, disposable, I add Nu-finish to it and brass is good to reload after 2hrs of tumbling. Brass is shiny and somewhat slick-ish after that on outside which is good for reliable chambering too.

hard to say. I should take some pictures of before and after next time.

the surface mic's out the same as once fired, and walnut cleaned. While it is definately shiny, there is some very very very very fine marking from the media. I don't think a camera will show it :(

What I want to try it on now is some AA hulls that have been fired twice and not tumbled and see what it does to a plastic case (hard grey)

The brass went through the resizer ok, and the finished product looks good. I guess I will fire a few rounds tomorrow, and see how they feed. My reloading junkie bud wants me to bring in a few to see the results for himself. I will post up a precis of his comments after he gets them done.
