Tumbling ?

Yes, pick up some CLR at Canadian Tire. Pick up a cheap plastic stainer and container large enough for the strainer will fit inside. Pour the CLR into the large container, dump the brass in the strainer. Dip it, slosh it around, drain it and rinse under hot tap water(cleans the drains too).
Lay the brass on a cookie sheet and put in the oven @150F for 20 minutes.

It may not come out as shiney as tumbled brass but it will be clean. Besides shiney brass does not win matches.

Use a stiff brush that barely fits in the case, chuck it into the drill, insert it into case, turn case with drill while holding it (case) loosely with steel wool, at some point clamp down on case and the brush will do the inside and pull case off as brush is turning. Sounds alot more complicated then it really is, you get alot of these techniques from reloading for 40+ years , often in the field with min. equip. and $....enjoy!

Give the necks a wipe with Nevr-Dull to clean and shine 'em up. Use a neck brush ($6) to do the inside of the neck + TV time and you're done. That's about as cheap as you'll get...and a can of Nevr-Dull should do a million case-necks - who cares about the body?

You'll be the coolest kid on the block with your 2-tone brass !

Good Luck !

I use a piece of scotch-brite(stainless steel graining pad, liberated from work) or steel wool with a brush for the inside.
It takes a while but it's good to do in front of the idiot box.

It costs nothing but my time and the cheap case brush.

That's about as cheap as you can get.

How much is your time worth?

You can get a tumbler form Midsouth shooters supply for about $50 these days.

Washing brass by hand is a waste of time.

Clean brass does make a difference! The shinier it is the smoother it is and that means it will slide into and from the magazine easier! I noticed this when I first got my progressive and just wanted to load something to try it out but only had some of the first brass I played around cleaning. Do yourself a favour and clean it propperly.

Tumbling helps clean off the outside of the cases and the loose stuff inside, which in turn, prevents scratching the dies and/or chamber.

Tumblers are cheap insurance.

i was the same as you
that is until i tried a tumbler. if you loads any quantity, you will save way more money than a tumbler will cost. plus, it's much easier to inspect clean cases. i've done the drill and scotch-brite thing, and it gets tiring real quick when doing 100 cases, let alone 1000's
you will be much happier with the tumbler
i paid 90 from cabelas, and it came with media
