I just picked one up (Primos the freak) just wondering, do I have to sand it everytime I use it? I notice after I sand it, if I wipe it with my fingers it no longer produces noise until I sand it again. Is this normal? Will this happen everytime I touch the surface or will there come a point where I will not have to worry about sanding? Do I have to keep sand paper with me on my hunt? Also does it work if its wet? Thanks in advance...

I have one and like it a lot. If you are rubbing bare fingers on the "slate', the oils etc cause the slate surface to lose its friction. Sand lightly - then leave it alone until you need to retouch up the surface.

Watch the leg bands - I find they loosen off and you dont want to walk with it strapped to your legs.

Good luck - only two more sleeps. My crew is leaving at 5:30 AM tomorrow for the drive down to Wasaga Beach.

Yahoooooo

Don't touch it after sanding, and keep a piece of sand paper in a small sandwich bag (so it doesn't get wet) with the call in case you need to touch it up in the field.. I use a 50 sand paper for mine..

When you sand you create tiny grooves and ridges in the playing surface. This is what gives you the vibration that the call body amplifies into the yelp. The oil in your fingers will definitely effect the vibration and therefore the sound. You need to sand periodically to reform the texture on the playing surface which I believe is crystal in the case of the Freak. Sanding can be noisy in the woods so if you carry a little block of pool que chalk you can dress up the end of the striker and prolong the need to sand.
BTW! Good Luck tomorrow.:D
