Hi guys,

I will be having a go at Turkey hunting this spring and I only have one shotgun with interchangeable chokes, it's a 3 year old Stevens 555, a little beauty I must add.

Anyway, I need a turkey choke in the next three weeks before the start of the season and I am just lost on all of the options out there. What kind of choke do I need, I have been looking at this one: https://www.cabelas.com/product/home/turkey-shotgun-choke-tubes/pc/105625080/c/2286704880/kicks-choke-tubes-gobblin-thunder/3074916.uts?slotId=3#productChart but then before checking out it gives a bunch of options, any idea on which one I need for my gun? Hopefully these pics load, any help is much appreciated, cheers!

I don't think there is an interchangeable choke with the ones used on Stevens 555. You’ll have to get one made for the Stevens 555. I believe Carlsons make them.

If I were you, I’d just use the full choke that came with the gun in one barrel and an IC choke in the other. Use the full choked barrel on longer shots and the IC for a shot that is up close and personal

This is good advice. Pattern you full choke. Its likely sufficient.

I have not checked any in a few years but wonder do they come full for steel or full for lead now when only one full choke is supplied and not marked
Cheers

Try your tightest factory chokes with flight control wads. Should easily get u to 40 yards
They look like mobil chokes but they are not.
Theres been known to have differing inside diameters on the stevens guns up to .005" i wouldnt spend big money on aftermarket choked until patterning the factory chokes. If i remember correctly their full choke is lead only and tight
Best of luck

All i can say is go shoot some 2oz loads with that gun and make sure its right for you. I have the same gun and shooting turkey loads through it is actually painful. I choose to use my mossberg 500 for my spring turkey hunt.

A word on flight control wads...they perform better, and were designed for more open chokes like modified or I/C. I found they weren’t great through a turkey or full choke. Work well otherwise.

agreed in part. When its been a few years since I patterned the load, but the pattern was junk out of a turkey choke, but very tight out of the factory full choke, and a little bit less tight out of the mod choke.
