I posted this on another site earlier...
Its not the biggest bird I got, but its a legal bird, beard approx. 3"....Spurs 1/4".....
Set up about 5:30 this morning on the edge of a field, put out a jake and hen combo at a 45 degree angle to my left anticipating the birds to come from my right (because there is a creek on my left)...Just before day break, turkeys start to gobble.....I respond back with some yelps...3 or 4 toms call out from different directions all pretty far away....After 15 mins or so, nothing coming closer gobbles still far away, think maybe I should move, but I hold my ground and continue to call every 3 or 4 minutes or so... After 10 more minutes or so I hear a gobble much closer over to my right....I call softly and he gobbles back (he's closer) I keep looking to my right, I see movement, as he goes behind some brush I lift my gun and point it in the field (45 degree) to my right. He steps out into the field begins to strut and from 15 yrds away I take him..... One good clean shot....A perfect way to end a great morning....thanks for listenning...
