I'm looking to go bow hunting for turkey this spring. Being my first time, what is involved? I heard someplace you've got to do a daycourse for a turkey license in Ontario. Is this true? What's involved? Turkeys have good eyesight so camo is a must. Is it a good idea to get decoys and calls. What tecniques work for you guys? What gear dod you use? Thanks - DML

Well scouting is VERY important, you need find out where the birds are roosting the day before, after that, stealth is important, a very low noise signature to and from the set up site. Set up depends on the lay of the land, I was taught that the birds generally don't like to go downhill? they would rather come up. Calling, well thats up to you. I like to record myself and then listen back to the tape, its lets me know how I sound.Thats just a brief overview, try to get out as much as you can, practice makes perfect. If you don't get a shot, then just enjoy the morning.

They've extended the hunting hours in Ontario to 7pm! So, when you go find them in their roost....just dump em! That was you won't have to get up at 5am the next morning! :D

hahahha

(Kidding obviously)

There's a couple that have their beards dragging in the mud when their eating. I'm hoping they stick around for another 6 weeks:D

I've been trying to get a turkey with a bow for the last 8years, and let me tell you brother, if you want absolute heart pounding frustration, do it with a traditional bow and arrow. That's why this year, I've finally smartened up and taking a shotgun. I've always gotten with 20 yds of them to make my shot,(they always jump the arrow!) with the ghillie suit I made. The suit is great, and the birds are confused or something of what the shaggy creature is, but there was this one time where the bird totally busted me when I was drawing back. Lesson learned is if you're going to do turkey with a bow and arrow, get a blind, and practice shooting from in there cause it's totally different from shooting in the open. Take the turkey seminar. Tell us if you bag one with a bow we will erect a statue in your honor, and our children will sing your name in praise. Good Luck !:D :D
